Lollapalooza Argentina 2015: My First Ever Experience At A Music Festival

4. Foster The People (Day 1)

I really liked hearing their debut album Torches, but the few videos I’ve seen of Foster The People performing live didn’t really encourage me to anticipate them badly. That said, my friend really wanted to get as close to the stage to witness them because he claims to be a huge fan of them. Lollapalooza Argentina 2015 had all kinds of audiences from different countries and ages, and most of them looked eagerly towards the more recent acts, with Foster being one of them. That said, I ate my hat because Best Friend and Are You What You Wanna Be? got Foster’s act to a very strong start with people rushing to see them closer and jumping around wildly that was only rivaled by the ending with Pumped Up Kicks and Don’t Stop (Color The Walls). By the way, check out this fan’s clip for Don’t Stop [MV] because the streaming didn’t include the final song. And even if it goes into shaky camera territory, that means the person that shot the ending actually enjoyed the concert.

My Peruvian friend who lives in Buenos Aires got a bit scared of the crowd moving wildly with the first two songs, so we backed down a little bit from the more enthusiastic concertgoers. While my friend was all like “I’m never gonna get near the stages ever again”, I was like “motherfucker, Pearl Jam at Lima was worse than this and you haven’t even been to a rock concert in Buenos Aires yet” — and I say this because Argentinean people can be wild and I can vouch for this based on my Manu Chau concert experience in Buenos Aires… or if you want a more recent example, the recent match between Boca Juniors against River Plate from this month — because my friends and I split and never saw each other again until 30 minutes after that concert ended. During my stay at Buenos Aires, I told him to attend Kiss’ concert in April along with my brother (whom actually saw Kiss live at Lima years ago), but dude chose to attend an electronic festival event instead. Oh, well.

That said, I think Foster The People sounds much better live and their frontman Mark Foster, whose vocal range pretty much makes FTP worth the listen, has gotten better in handling and engaging crowds compared to the videos I’ve seen before. Pleasant surprise that exceeded my expectations.
