Juan: A Life in Music

1996 – The Fugees’ The Score

Listening to Killing Me Softly was probably the thing that led to me fall in love with Lauryn Hill’s stunning voice. It’s so mesmerizing, not only in that song, but throughout the album.

1997 – Björk’s Homogenic

What would I be without the flawless existence of Björk? Probably bored as hell. Homogenic is really just a beautiful album. Although the version of the song All Is Full of Love on the album is a remix, I’m going to go ahead and post the absolutely gorgeous video for the song because it’s truly one of the most magnificent music videos I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching.

1998 – Madonna’s Ray of Light

Did you think I was only going to use one Madonna album? I’m gay — it’s like we’re forced to love Madonna from the moment we leave the womb. But aside from joking about gay stereotypes, Ray of Light is arguably Madonna’s greatest album and there isn’t a single track on it that I don’t wholeheartedly enjoy.

1999 The Flaming Lips’ The Soft Bulletin / Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time

Don’t get me wrong, I could have chosen about a billion other albums as well for this year but these were the two winners. Britney’s album is just one of my guiltiest pleasures and The Soft Bulletin remains my favorite Lips album yet. So they both get the spot for this year.

2000 – Sade’s Lovers Rock

Sade is probably my favorite band of all time and also my highest played artist over the last few years. No other woman’s voice could do what Sade’s does to me and Lovers Rock is my favorite of six albums — containing some of my all-time favorite tracks like Somebody Already Broke My Heart and King of Sorrow.

Juan Barquin

Just yer average twenty-something college student with no time on his hands who ends up watching (and writing) too many movies and shows for his own good.

OMG, Jurassic Park – how could you not, right? The magical notes when you first see the island… and then the first time you see the dinosaur.

We could have been best friends in our teens and fawn over Bjork, Lauryn, Madonna and Britney. LOL

And, I agree on your position of 19 > 21 xD
