Follow Your Heart: Interview with Smacksoft

Bo, you recently released a solo album As If Nothing Ever Happened, can you tell us a little about it? What were your biggest inspirations during the making of this album?

My solo EP was recorded with me singing over all acoustic instrumentation. The EP contains seven tracks. Some of the material is really new, but some of the songs were written nearly 20 years ago.

The whole world is in chaos because of events like the March 2011 tsunami in Fukushima, Japan and the radiation problems that it has caused. Events like those were my biggest inspiration to produce simple acoustic music. I just wanted to chill out and calm myself down. While making the album, I tried to make the songs sound happy in order to not involve too much of what’s really going on in the world.

Are you going to spend some time performing in promotion of the EP when you return from your time in the US?

Probably, but I’m not 100% sure yet. We’re going to start working on our sixth full-length after our upcoming overseas tour dates and hope to release the album in June. So I’m guessing we’re going to be really busy with that.

You’re also heading to Amsterdam in April with Jambinai and Su:M, as your first time in Europe, what are you looking forward to most?

I’m really looking forward to soaking up the atmosphere of the city and its people. Visiting new places and meeting new people is always cool, so that should be a really fun experience. We’re also going to play a show in Paris on April 17 before coming back to Korea. We’re excited about that gig too!
