Aquí Estoy Yo: Interview with Esteman

In a recent message you mentioned that you were going to be one of the new faces for a new tourism and culture campaign in Bogota. Personally, what are some of the best places to visit?

Wow, well, I’m a really big fan of downtown Bogota, and I love it. Besides walking through La Candelaria, the Jimenez avenue is one of my favorite streets due to its architecture and the historical aspect. However, there’s a very special neighborhood, where we recorded the music video for Pobre Corazón [MV], it’s called La Soledad — it’s between La Soledad and Teusaquillo. It’s a neighborhood that I really love because the architecture is very Art Deco of the 40s, 50s, 60s, and has that feel of the era that I really love. The houses have kept themselves, which is something that Bogota has failed a bit with its urban planning. This neighborhood really has kept itself really well, and it’s got some really nice parks. Obviously, parks in Bogota — Bogota is a really green city, and it’s covered with its flora and its mountains. It’s what shelters Bogota.

I also see that you’ve been playing several festivals throughout Colombia-

Yeah!

And some other places in Mexico-

I’m going to Mexico right now, for the very first time. Our relationship with Mexico has been really great. I’ve had contact with Julieta Venegas and Natalia LaFourcade (who played a gig here in Bogota), and Carla Morrison, whom we’ve shared a nice time in Medellin with. Besides that, it’s the second country that without having been there, we’ve had the best reach. It’s impressive to see the amount of people that follow us from there.

Now, we’re on our way to Vive Latino [Mar.14-17] and we’ll be doing other concerts, but that’s around mid-March.

What can we expect from Esteman this year?

This year is pretty big, mainly because we’re going to different places in Latin America where we’ve had some reach, so we can show them what we can do live. For me that’s the place where I’m most comfortable and where I want people to connect with us.

We’re going to Africa, where a festival came up. Chile and Peru, for sure. We’re going to be in Santiago-

Do I wait for you in Peru then?

Well, we don’t have anything confirmed in Peru, but we’re heading to northern Chile and southern Peru. That’s recent, over the weekend [Feb.16th], so we’re going over there. That’s something that came up in January and it’s just happening now.

We’re also going to be, like I said, in Mexico and in Miami. We’re going to possibly be doing something mid-year, like in June, July… or maybe August. Going down to Peru, once again to Chile and Argentina. To me, that’s key. Besides, we’re going to be releasing new music videos and new songs — there’s going to be a new song with an artist from Bogota, her name is Paula Arenas [1]. She’s someone I want to support so much, and I want people to know her.

We’re also going to be collaborating in other projects that are a bit more secret, because they’re about to concrete themselves. But I can tell you it’s a Mexican singer.

Really looking forward to it!

Is it Julieta Venegas [pure speculation, but ?!?!?!]??

You’ll have to follow Esteman and the Esteband’s updates through social media on Facebook, Twitter, and his Official Website where he has listed all his social media links (he is EVERYWHERE, except for Weibo xP), included a very useful link to Soundcloud, where you can sample a lot of his songs.
