Amy’s 2012-2013 Music Highlights

23. Lee Hi (이하이) – First Love

Second -sorta- cheat of the list~

It still shocks me how good Lee Hi’s voice is and how young she is. Here she works it with First Love divided in two parts, released only nearly one month apart, so it counts as one album, okay?

You can get Part 1 and Part 2 on iTunes.

22. Lorde – Pure Heroine

Continuing with the “how young she is” theme here, how about Lorde? She’s about two months younger than Lee Hi.

As per all western music distribution, it’s super cheap to buy the album… but every single track is over the regular 0.99c. So just buy the whole album on iTunes.

21. Various Artist – Aashiqui 2 Soundtrack

… and to continue with the theme of “Amy is not entirely an old person” that we got in this section, Aashiqui 2 maybe have that money-grab marketing strategy, because the movie apparently didn’t have anything to do with the original 1990 Aashiqui, but its soundtrack did elevate a melodramatic weepy film that may be juvenile — though I can be a total sucker for dark brooding tormented souls sometimes.

And there’s a partial Jukebox, because India rolls like that… and I love it. Tum Hi Ho is my fraking jam.

But there’s a certain charm to see it within the context of the movie.

If you love it, though, get it on iTunes. Hollywood complains about piracy- DUDE! It’s crazy in India.

  1. i just found Your blog because Your name was attached to Tété’s. You are my new connection to finding great music. i was checking to see who else likes Tété. my wife may go on tour with him in the fall of 2015 when he will releases his new album. i wanted to find someone who could review her music. Your music selections were so good i got distracted and started exploring all the artist You like. It may break my bank.

[…] For the past two years, I took a break (and lazed about) when it came to making my music highlights list, which made for some interesting music choices~ if I may say so. I should take two years to make a list more often. This year I thought I did pretty okay, I’ve got listed nearly 180 albums/EPs/Minis, and many of my biases released new albums so you’ll have to forgive my predictability and lack of interesting choices this time around. However, there is one BIG surprise pick, which I never expected to ever see as any of my picks. […]

[…] Mohit Suri has a sketchy directorial track record- Aashiqui 2 is supposedly a little too much like A Star is Born (sorry, haven’t seen the film) and Ek Villain was -admittedly- a little too much like I Saw the Devil without the style (I did enjoy the villain build-up, though). What Mohit Suri has is the music of Mithoon, Ankit Tiwari and Jeet Gannguli whom -altogether- have been leaving their mark in modern emotional hindi soundtracks for the past two years. I did fall prey to their music [1]. […]
