Amy’s 2011 Music Highlights
Putting together this list, I realized that I listened to a lot of music by female artists and groups. Whatever that says about me, I have literally no idea. The truth is my list is filled with women — disproportionately so. I just want to make clear that this is not a gender biased list, at least it wasn’t intended to be. It just turned out this way.
First, my bonus.
Marit Larsen – Spark
Everyone that knows me knows that I adore Marit. I’m still waiting for Amazon to ship my hard copy of the album — because unlike other people who only do digital now, I still buy albums physically. This, of course, creates a huge problem of space at home… but I digress.
The first time I listened to Marit’s Spark, it wasn’t like when I listened to Under the Surface or The Chase. Something was missing for me, I don’t know how to fully explain it. I guess I miss the totally folksy vibe I had grown accustomed to. I mean, I can feel it there but not as prominently.
I still love the way she is so sweet sounding in those pretty scary moments, though, like in Have You Ever where she sings, “Have you ever seen her face, the way it lights up when he walks into the room. He is everything I want and all that she’s got, but there’s a way around it — all I’d have to do is break her heart.”
