A Conversation about Concerts, Cameras and Fans

Amy: Which reminds me…? I hate there’s like gazillions of zones in Peruvian concerts. It sucks half the fun. One of the other reasons I avoid them.
What happened to the good old days of General and VIP?
Rodrigo: Money!
Amy: It’s not even funny here. Sometimes I just forget about concerts that have 5 or 6 different zones. xD

Rodrigo: The Jonas Brothers had like 20-something type of tickets when they came here for the first time, right?
Amy: Yeah, they had about a dozen zones… they sold out tickets and added an extra date, which… is… unbelievable. The Bieber couldn’t even do that.
Rodrigo: Bieber is the most hated singer in the world. Also, his fanbase are way too young to get their parents buying tickets to see him.
Amy: I could argue that. I think they’re about the same demographic. I don’t hate him, I just find him exhausting. I’ve tried getting into the Bieber Fever thing being pop and all… I just can’t. I find his on-screen personality annoying, like he’s cool or something.
Rodrigo: Also, a death threat didn’t helped matters here for him, lol. I want to pretend he doesn’t exist, but every single motherfucker on YouTube reminds me that he exists. On Twitter, it’s even worse.
Amy: As far as commercial pop and teen pop goes, I think Kpop is kicking butt, though. But then again, Julyssa has brainwashed my brain, so there’s that.
Rodrigo: I can’t get into Kpop mostly because of the language barrier and also some acts seem like BSB ripoffs at times. But they have a pretty rabid fanbase. I’d be interested to see SM Town in Peru. I think that could be one of the very few events where crowd wouldn’t be so tame here. But it’s Peru, so…
Amy: As with anything pop, there’s quality and quality. The thing about Kpop that I find somewhat connecting is that these people literally do the impossible. Wanting to be a Kpop idol is like saying you’re going to university, and they live themselves training to have the chance.
When they tell me they’re exhausted, I believe them. It’s not like I think they spent the night drinking and partying… I respect that. LOL.
One of the reasons I respect Lady Gaga too, actually.
Rodrigo: Eddie Vedder drinks in almost all of his concerts and he still delivers to perfection – with probably a few exceptions, lol.
Amy: I think an idol/artist should respect their audience, though… something Amy Winehouse never did. Talking about audience respect… what about that Eva Ayllon problem, huh?
Rodrigo: I thought she was trolling at first. But peruvians are so sensitive… still a dick move, though.
Amy: She got Punk’d. I wouldn’t wait for anyone for 3 hours, though – whatever the price I paid.
Rodrigo: People wait for Axl Rose, and he’s a bigger c*nt than Eva Ayllón
Amy: Oh, I heard about that one. I wouldn’t. Assholes and bitches don’t deserve my little money; I wouldn’t even consider attending an Axl Rose’s gig after that.
Rodrigo: He always does it. And for the record, I don’t like Guns and Roses that much, even without factoring the Axl Rose factor.
Amy: Guns N’ Roses had some great singles, though. Oh, another sucky thing here is that we get a lot of washed up old school stars and get to pay full price for concerts…
Rodrigo: If more concerts happened often, the price might go lower.
Amy: If Michael Jackson hadn’t died… I was counting on attending his concert. LOL, I have no idea how getting a ticket for that was going to work out, though. Anyway, we have a crazy fan who globetrots to attend concerts. Julyssa’s attended a gig in Japan, one in South Korea, and the other in… Singapore. Would you ever do it? for who?
Rodrigo: If I had her money and time, I would have gone to festivals. Pinkpop, Reading + Leeds, Lollapalooza, etc. Lots of artists to see live.
Amy: Yeah, but you don’t. We’re talking real expectations. Julyssa’s done it she doesn’t have loads of money and loads of time… but she manages.
Rodrigo: Under real expectations, I don’t think for anyone.
If I were to travel outside Peru on vacations, I might try and check out something live.
Amy: We’re on the same boat then. Though, I’m really over-thinking if I would ever go to a China concert of BiBi… maybe if someone tells me I will get to meet her or something.
Rodrigo: Just to witness a live concert outside Peru would be interesting enough. In my case, it would be something opportunistic.
Amy: Would you plan your trip around a concert, though?
Rodrigo: Nope. But plan a concert around my trip, maybe.
Amy: I almost attended a BSB concert in Vancouver, but the main reason of travel was a wedding… the trip didn’t happen though. Because visas suck.
Rodrigo: If I go to Argentina again, I’d do it definitely. I already experienced watching Boca Juniors live, so I’m aware of Argentina crowds to a certain extent.
Amy: See… I’m not a football kind of person. I watch the World Cup like any normal person that’s not fully Canadian or American, but I don’t think I would go to any sporting event in general. Maybe a baseball match. I’ve taken a liking for those on TV. xD
Rodrigo: Baseball? You’re serious?

And then the conversation changed wildly in topics – we’re human after all – that you don’t really need to know.

Aw you two are so cute! :P

So, Ames, you finally admit Kpop-defeat? >;D

Rodrigo: don’t get me wrong, I do not have the money nor the time. If I want something, I make it happen. I’m just passionate as that. To be quite honest, me going to these countries for concerts is pretty crazy. It’s not cheap. Sure, the concerts give you an excuse to visit a country you might never have visited. It’s an experience, I will give you that.
Then again, there’s something about Kpop that makes you to a loyal, crazed fan. But they are very few Korean acts I would travel the world for. As it is now, only reason I would take my ass half around the world would be for a DBSK comeback. Everything else can wait. But thanks to the globalization of Kpop, I don’t have to travel far for a concert. There’s going to be a Kpop festival in Paris next year. JYJ were in Berlin. So yes, no more need to travel far!

@Julyssa, but we won’t even travel to China or Brasil for a concert xD

      Kpop defeat indeed.

    • Rodrigo says:

      @Julyssa, Hahaha.

I know that travelling that far for concerts is pretty crazy, but it’s not impossible to do so, depending on many factors. The time factor would totally be against me for nearly anything really want to attend, not to mention the prices and other shit.

Anything can make you crazy and loyal, it doesn’t just limit to Kpop (I’ll admit the fanbase for Kpop is pretty rabid from what I’ve seen). I’ve seen fans at the Pearl Jam concert that went to see them at Argentina and Chile before the Peru gig, just to cite one example.
