Our Favorite Movie Moms

Rodrigo

Sally Field as Forrest Gump’s mom.

Jay

Oh, dude — Mrs. Weasley, totally.

Juan

Can I cheat and say Norman Bates portraying his mother?

Actually, I take that back. Julie Andrews. Maria Von Trapp. No doubt about it.

Ghost

There’s no mom’s list without the mom in Mother. It’s a crime she had to campaign to even think of getting a Best Actress nod. Oh, yeah — er… great mom, the craziest things she’s done — okay, she’s not so good, but she does do the impossible to get her son out.

What are your favorite movie moms?

  1. okay I love crazy mothers and thus would go with the mom from Harold and Maude and Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest.

      @Cinema Fanatic, if you mention Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest, we have to mention Mildred Pierce xD I gotta give it to Mildred… she slapped Veda on the right moment. LOL

    I think the best/most hilarious is Glynnis Johns in Mary Poppins!

    • amy says:

      @Kendra, mother suffragists! xD

        @amy, So, cast off the shackles of yesterday!
        Shoulder to shoulder into the fray!
        Our daughters’ daughters will adore us
        And they’ll sign in grateful chorus
        “Well done! Well done!
        Well done Sister Suffragette!”

          @Juan Barquin, I have a confession.

          You know you liked Maria von Trapp? And since were talking about Mary Poppins… I always kinda wished that I had a mom as fun as Julie Andrews hahaha. Not her as Maria, not her as Mary Poppins… just Julie Andrews.

    Great collection of movie moms. Can’t really argue with any of them :) I might add Joan Crawford from Mildred Pierce

  4. Dan says:

    Oh, Sarah Connor, what dedication she showed! Great list!

    Recently saw the film Mother – an interesting piece of work, definitely. Great performance by the mother.

      @Dan, I was really pushing (even if impossible) for an Oscar nod for her. There were four really great performances in Asia… one of them was Hyeja Kim for Mother which was finally legible in the US – then there was Jeong-Hee Yun on Poetry, Xu Fan in Aftershock, and Shinobu Terajima in Caterpillar.

      Except for Terajima’s all seem to fit that “mother type”.
