Star Trek (2009)

Star Trek (2009) is a great action movie worth seeing for it’s humor and smartass dialogue. In fact, the best parts of this Star Trek movie were all the parts that weren’t Star Trek, in so far as it was actually a movie and not another boring T.V. episode.

Maison en Petits Cubes, La

Tsumiki no Ie, or La Maison en Petits Cubes, is a Japanese animated short, winner of a 2009 Academy Award. It was directed by Kunio Kato, and it tells the story of an old man living in a town flooded by water.

Brothers Bloom, The

The Brothers Bloom is a one of the funniest, most compelling movies I’ve seen this year. It may even bring you up a bit after brain dead fare such as Terminator Salvation.

Watchmen (2009)

I was really excited about this movie and it lived up to my expectations and then some. I read the books a few years back and while I am a fan of Alan Moore, and it is certainly a thoughtful and complex work, the original graphic novel left me a little cold. I respect it and enjoyed it, but it was more of a detached fascination then any real affection for the characters.

Tokyo! (2008)

Generally speaking, the trilogy of stories that is the movie Tokyo! could have been much shorter and would have been more successful as 10 or 15-minute shorts rather than a single movie.

Let the Right One In

Skinny blond kid living in snow-covered Swedish apartment complex fantasizes about giving his local schoolyard bullies their well earned comeuppance. Skinny pale girl moves in next door. Only comes out at night. Boy meets Girl. People die. Bonds are formed. Fangs are unsheathed.
