Top30 Favorite Film Discoveries of 2013
5. Mind Game
First thought when watching this: What the f*ck am I watching?
4. Hey Ram
This epic of a movie is nearly 4-hours long and has no musical sequences, making it a very VERY dense movie about a man who loses his friend and his lover in the midst of political and religious turmoil. But what a journey of forgiveness and redemption amidst the violence and hatred.
Thank you, Rani, for having this in your filmography and introducing me early to Kamal Hassan. [1]
3. Red Sorghum
Another Zhang Yimou movie I had been postponing, but this time for lack of time. Plus, older Zhang material tends to be more emotionally draining, so I knew I had to be on the right mindset to absorb the artistry behind this. It’s an amazing film… oh, who am I kidding? I love tragedy embellished by lush visuals such as the ones provided by Zhang.
Fictional tragedy gives me a sense of thankfulness for having the boring life that I lead.
WARNING: Spoiler heavy.
Yay! Magadheera! :D
@Jenna, I find Telugu movies hard to find if they’re not on YouTube. I’m gonna watch some Ram Charan films when I find the time.
Great list, and yes, very Indian film heavy. But there are a lot of good films on that list! I see a few on there from other countries I have to check out now. :)
@Jenna, except for both the titles in Spanish, everything else is quite easy to find with subtitles. I’m actually surprised Maria Felix films are so hard to find.
