The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Wicked and Divine adaptations~

THURSDAY

It seems Marvel finally had a talk with their poster design department and lo and behold, something (slightly) different! And different in a good way! The new Ant-Man poster is something I wouldn’t mind hanging from a wall.

Andy Serkis will play a mo-cap character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And while we have yet to know what he looks like or his role on the story, we have a name: Supreme Leader Snoke. That kinda sounds like a villain’s name, right? But maybe I am being prejudiced~

Hannibal showrunner always said he will never show a rape scene on this show (or any other show he will ever had)… but how does Bryan Fuller’s “ban on rape” works on Hannibal when they have this new villain who is, among other things, a rapist? With creativity, of course!

It was challenging approaching the Red Dragon story because the crimes that Francis Dolarhyde commits [in the novel] include the horrible raping of corpses, and near-corpses. In crafting the story arc of the Red Dragon, it became a challenge on how to keep true to the novel but deemphasize the exploitive qualities of woman being raped. […]  It became a tricky matter of deemphasizing women being targeted, and making more pronounced the crimes against the victim’s family as a whole.

Bryan Fuller also talked about American Gods, the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s book. And he reassures us that it will be appropriately diverse!

One of the things I’m most excited about for American Gods is the diversity in the cast because there’s such a wide range of ethnic Gods in the world. Right now, we’re imagining two white roles and everybody else is non-white, so my goal, Michael’s goal, certainly Neil’s goal has been to have a very ethnically diverse cast. That’s important to all of us.

And now onto original productions! Here are the character profiles of the protagonists of Sense8, the new Netflix sci-fi thriller by The Wachowskis! Here’s my favourite with Bae Doona as Sun – a Seoul bussinesswoman and exceptional martial artist. What can I say. I have a weakness for asskicking ladies.

FRIDAY

Here’s the Groovy Tease promo of Ash vs. Evil Dead! Damn, those Deadites have very watery blood!

And now for the great news. Do you know two of the comicbooks I am low-key stanning are getting live-action adaptations? First, The Wicked + The Divine comicbook will turn into a TV series by Universal TV! And Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick! The comicbook comes from Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie, who also joined forces for another favourite of mine, Young Avengers, last year. The Wicked + The Divine, launched by Image Comics in June 2014, centers on a group of 12 people with superhuman powers known as “The Pantheon”. And it’s awesome~

And then OMG Lumberjanes will become a movie! The comicbook, created by awesome ladies  Shannon Watters, Noelle Stevenson, and Brooke A. Allen, follows the adventures of a group of girls in their summer scout camp where they encounter lots of weird creatures and supernatural happenings. And did I mention the quantity and quality of female characters here?! The scriptwriter is going to be this dude I know nothing about called Will Widger, so I just hope he has a lot of input from the creators. This is a movie with lots of ladies and I hope he knows how to handle their awesome.

Mark Millar has been lucky these last years. Dude has seen many of his comicbooks adapted, and it seems many more will come. Yep, get ready for Kingsman 2, Chrononauts and Starlight on the big screen!

The next two that I think will be moving forward pretty quickly are Starlight and Chrononauts, I think they’ll probably be made at the same time as Kingsman 2, if not even before.

Let’s wrap this column with news of a kind. Yep, Ryan Reynolds announced the end of Deadpool‘s principal photography, and he thanks the fans for the support. Get ready for that movie on February 12, 2016!

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Ian McKellen, Helena Bonham Carter, Paul Bettany, Christopher Lee, Adam Brown and Danny Elfman.
