The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Ups and Downs, Smiles and Frowns

THURSDAY

First official behind the scenes photo of Thor: The Dark World in decent size and resolution. That’s all very nice, but… where the hell is Lok,i dammit!

Empire Magazine also delivers the official photos of Hugh Jackman looking damn good as Wolverine in a suit and a couple of new images of The World’s End.

Talking about The World’s End, here’s an interview with director Edgar Wright, where he talks about how this movie differs from Shaun of the Dead and Hott Fuzz:

Shaun was about where we live – our neighbourhood in North London. And then Hot Fuzz was about going back home. Home for me and Simon in terms of a small town. But this one is about looking backwards. It’s more nostalgic.

More concept art! This time we have the witches from Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. There is so much variety and I love every single one of them!

Remember that Cinderella movie they were making, where Cate Blanchett was going to be the wicked stepmother? They are looking for a new director… and it may be Kenneth Branagh! Yay!

FRIDAY

Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have been talking to Radio Times about Sherlock and Doctor Who lately, what with the third season starting to shoot soon, and then the 50th Anniversary respectively. Another one who talked with Radio Times was Martin Freeman, who expects John Watson’s reaction to Sherlock’s return to be more “violent”:

I think [Sherlock co-creator] Mark [Gatiss] felt probably that fainting is not very 2013. I don’t know what [John’s reaction] is gonna be, but hopefully something very violent.

Talking about Sherlockwe are gonna get toys. I may have squeed a little.

And talking about Benedict, he’ll probably get another role… as the math genius, Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. What’s with him and geniuses? And this could be his second LGBT character after the biopic of Brian Epstein he will also do.

Mark Millar talks with SFX about X-Men: Days of Future Past and how the Sentinels will join the trend of giant robot. Only, you know, kinda evil:

I don’t really want to give too much away but the Sentinels are a big feature of this story. They will be cool and this will deliver on all of the teasers.

He also talked about Kick-Ass 2 (and Kick-Ass 3!), Dredd and The Dark Knight Rises.

Finally, Emily VanCamp is going to be the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So probably Sharon Carter.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, let’s say Happy Birthday to Ellen Degeneres, Elijah Wood and Christian Bale.
