The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Ups and Downs, Smiles and Frowns

MONDAY

Empire Magazine’s new issue delivers a Man of Steel cover. Here’s the regular version and the “line free” version for subscribers:

In the issue there’s also an interview with executive producer, Craig Kyle about Thor: The Dark World

We spend more time on the ground with the commoners, as opposed to in the palace. It’s a very complicated blend [of genres: high science fiction, gritty fantasy, and realism]. Thor is, until Guardians of the Galaxy hits, by far our most wild, fringe Marvel piece. But that’s why it’s the Marvel Universe and not Marvel Earth!

Man, this is making me giddy! Oh yeah, Bryan Singer also gets to discuss time travel in X-Men: Days of Future Past:

We’ve cracked it in a way that it makes sense. I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that. You have to create your rules and stick wtih them. That’s why Terminator and Back To The Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible.

RDJ tells us about an awesome scene in Iron Man 3… that kind of reminds us of that concept art image they released months ago:

We’ve just been talking about one sequence – the top-secret name is the Boot/Glove Sequence, I can tell you that, just between you and me – it’s where Tony only has one gauntlet and one boot and he has to escape multiple captors. It’s really fun, dude.

But there was more talk about Iron Man 3, this time about the character Maya Hansen. Here’s what Shane Black has to say:

We needed a snappy and exciting actor to play the part, and not make it this ‘female scientist who takes off her glasses and suddenly she’s beautiful!’ There’s a certain element about her being the female Robert Downey Jr. in a way.

And now for something totally different regarding Marvel news: Paul Giamatti may be The Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I’m still not sure about this casting, but hey, I’m sure Giamatti will be happy if he lands the role. He did say back in March that Rhino was his fav.

Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated series are apparently cancelled. While I just casually watched those shows, I feel your pain, DC fans. I too cried bitter tears when they cancelled Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. No, I’ll never get over it. Even if Avengers Assemble turns out to be awesome. Anyway, here’s what Andre from Black Nerd Comedy has to say about it:

Robert Rodriguez wouldn’t mind doing a Star Wars movie, but he would also love ’em more if they were standalone movies in the Star Wars universe. Like a Boba Fett movie or a Han Solo one. He’s not the first director with that idea, and I think it’s a damn good idea.

Wow, Evil Dead got a NC-17 rating. Back to the editing room to tone it down to R.

You know what time is it? It’s concept art time! American Horror Story: Asylum style:
