The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Too late to change the name!

WEDNESDAY

People’s Choice Awards! And most of my favs won! We have Robert Downey Jr. as Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Dramatic Movie Actor, Jennifer Lawrence as Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Action Movie Actress, Chris Evans as Favorite Action Movie Actor, Outlander as Favorite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show, Orange Is the New Black as Favorite Dramedy, David Tennant as Favorite Actor In A New TV Series and Viola Davis as Favorite Actress In A New TV Series. Also, damn Maleficent won as Favorite Movie and Favorite Family Movie!

Apparently, The LEGO Movie‘s sequel will take place 4 years later. Do LEGO years move at the same pace of real life years?

Well I don’t want to give you spoilers but we were really interested in what happens to that boy who’s in the meta story in the first movie when he’s four years older. When he’s an adolescent how does that change his point of view? And it’s nice to have the characters start in a different place from the first movie. Emmet, for example, was in an existential crisis of having seen another dimension and was questioning the whole point of his existence.

You know that Kong: Skull Island where Tom Hiddleston is going to be the protagonist, besides Kong himself of course. Seems that Michael Keaton will join him and JK Simmons in the adventure! The film will prefiere on March 10, 2017!

Moving to TV, Marco Polo is getting a Season 2! Whatever he critics said, the public sure is enjoying the Netflix series! So yep, we are getting 10 new episodes on Kublai Khan’s 13th century China.

On more Netflix series, habemus premiere date for DaredevilApril 10th! The 13-part series also got a motion poster and a regular one:

That said, it seems that all the Marvel/Netflix series are elegible for a second season if any (or all) of them are well received! But also other factors involved, according to Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos:

Definitely in how well we are addressing both the Marvel fanbase but also the broader fanbase who may or may not ever get into one of these series because of their own preconceived notions. One thing we have [is] a really great history of [combining] the personalized merchandising and the subscription model that allows people to be a little more adventurous about what they watch. We may find that an audience way broader than the typical Marvel audience will try and fall in love with these shows and with the Marvel brand, and it will be universe-expanding for Marvel too.

On comic book news, Ant-Man Prelude is as the name suggest a two-part comic book prequel to the movie that shows us Hank Pym as Ant-Man back in the day.

The Cold War played a pivotal role in the post-World War II world and shaping what would become the agency we all know as S.H.I.E.L.D. but when you’re talking about a global conflict that spanned decades, there is definitely a distinction between Peggy’s Cold War era, which would have been around the time of the Truman doctrine and Hank’s, which would have been closer to when Gorbachev was leader of the Soviet Union. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s evolving position in the world during all that time plays a big part in defining Hank Pym’s role as the Ant-Man.

On the DC side of news, we have a new Power Girl! At least on Earth #2. Tanya Spears is a genius teenager with Power Girl’s superpowers and she will join the Teen Titans in, well, Teen Titans #7. So where’s the Karen Starr/Kara Zor-L of Earth #2? Back to her world after an explosion in a lab it seems. New Power Girl is not only younger and a different race, she’s also got a new costume who makes more sense. Not perfect sense like the new costumes of Batgirl, Spider-Woman and new Ms. Marvel, but we are definitely going in the right direction~
