The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Tompocalypse!

FRIDAY

Tompocalypse continues, now with the news that Hiddles will be on Top Gear! The episode he will be on will air on his birthday, February 9th! Good luck with your Reasonably Priced Car, Thomas!

Also, Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak gets a release date! It’s relevant to Tompocalypse because Hiddles is there! So when’s it gonna be? Well, better mark those calendars for October 16, 2015!

In sorta related news, because it’s about Loki, here’s a lettered preview of Loki: Agent of Asgard #1, and we already got a shower scene! Whoop!

Back To The Future will be a stage musical, because why not! The 30th birthday is very close, after all! This is what Bob Gale has to say:

The Back To The Future Musical is a project that Bob Zemeckis and I have been exploring for almost ten years. We’re thrilled to be at last in partnership with a creative and producing team that will create a show that is true to the spirit of the film without being a slavish remake.

Liam Neeson will be in Martin Scorsese’s Silence (yay), with  Ken Watanabe and Andrew Garfield (double yay!). The movie is an adaptation of  Shusaku Endo’s novel about Jesuits who attempt to spread Christianity in 17th century Japan. Well, it’s a change from all the action roles Liam is getting lately. Not that I mind much~

In more casting news, Michael Pitt will be in Hannibal as Mason Verger, “an unstable wealthy patient of Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) who begins a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with the deadly serial killer.” If the name is familiar it’s because Gary Oldman played an older version of him in the 2001 Hannibal film.

Steven Moffat talks about their ideas for Sherlock series 4 and 5~

It’s really [Season] 4 that we’ve got, but it throws forward to a terrifying [Season] 5.  It wasn’t a planned thing. […] We just started having what I think are the best set of ideas we’ve ever had.  I think they’re just wild.  And when I say ideas, it’s what stories we’ll tackle, what big twists there will be, what gut punches there will be, and what surprises there will be, and I think it’s really exciting.

So, Stan Lee agreed, when asked about Deathlok and Lady Sif appearing, that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. needs more superheroes~

Yeah, that will be great. I think that’s what the show needs. I think people will tune in to see those characters and will enjoy seeing them in the context of being with normal people on a normal mission.

Here are new Captain America: The Winter Soldier posters, which include some character posters where Scarlett Johansson is quite photoshopped~ Oh well, at least the group posters don’t look just like Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World‘s posters!

Hayao Miyazaki says the anime industry is full of otaku. Also, the Pope is Catholic. OK, he means Otaku in the original sense of socially awkward obssesed person, not “anime fan” as we mean. A lot of people are going to be butthurt about this, but old man raises very valid points!

You see, whether you can draw like this or not, being able to think up this kind of design, it depends on whether or not you can say to yourself, ‘Oh, yeah, girls like this exist in real life.’ If you don’t spend time watching real people, you can’t do this, because you’ve never seen it […] Almost all Japanese animation is produced with hardly any basis taken from observing real people, you know. It’s produced by humans who can’t stand looking at other humans. And that’s why the industry is full of otaku!

Also, Studio Ghibli just announced its first TV series everSanzoku no Musume Ronja, or “Ronja the Robber’s Daughter,” will start airing on August 31, and it’s an adaptation of a book by Astrid Lindgren. Yes, of course, the protagonist is a badass girl!

Finally, in the most baffling news of the week, Warner Bros. announced that Jesse Eisenberg is  going to be Lex Luthor in the Superman Vs. Batman movie. I had to double check the calendar to see if this was April 1st! Alas, it wasn’t. Also, Jeremy Irons is Alfred, but I can live with that even if I had Jeremy Irons as a butler I will always suspect he will stab me on the back. Here’s what Zack Snyder has to say:

What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.

And that it’s for the week! Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Ellen DeGeneres (Jan 26), Alan Cumming (Jan 27), Elijah Wood (Jan 28), Frank Darabont (Jan 28) and Christian Bale (Jan 30)!
