The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Thunder from down under~

THURSDAY

As of right now, The Rock (sorry, Dwayne Johnson, you will always be The Rock to me) is Hollywood’s highest-paid actor! Who would have though Heel-Face-Turn wrestler “Rocky Maivia” will get this far when he decided to become an actor! Dude has earned $64.5 million between June 2015 and June 2016! On the other hand, seems gender pay gab works in every level. Dwayne has $20 million over highest-paid actress Jennifer Lawrence. She topped Forbes’ highest-paid actresses list with $46 million — 72% of his income, and ends up coming in sixth on the overall list (ahead of Ben Affleck, who made $43 million). Of course, this also could mean The Rock just got more gigs, but still!

Some Ghost In The Shell cast photos leaked! Yep, here’s our first look at the other members of Public Security Section 9! And while nobody looks great, everybody looks decent. Check out Scarlett Johansson, white-washing controversy aside, she looks decent. Everybody except for Chin Han, that is. He looks nothing Togusa! Damn, that’s an unflattering photo!

Yep, it’s official: Steve Rogers is no longer Captain America in the MCU. I mean, it was heavily implied when he left the shield behind and chose Bucky in Captain America: Civil War. But now we have confirmation by the Russo brothers~

I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity. [It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.

OMG! Studio Trigger’s Takafumi Hori (of anime Kill la Kill fame) guest animated (and drew a promotional art piece) the latest Steven Universe episode, “Mindful Education”. Here’s the scene for the song “Here Comes a Thought”, which creator Rebecca Sugar sang live at San Diego Comic-Con.

Stranger Things ranked quite high on the list of Netflix’s Most-Watched Shows, according to stats provided by Symphony Advanced Media. Stranger Things is the third most watched show within its first month on Netflix, behind only Orange is the New Black‘s season 4 and Fuller House (lol damn, nostalgia is strong with this one!). It ranks higher than Making a Murderer, Daredevil Season 2 and Jessica Jones. Congrats!

FRIDAY

Some images from Bill Condon’s live-action Beauty and the Beast have been online! One is of Ewan McGregor and Ian Mckellen’s Cogsworth and Lumiere… and they look kinda creepy? I sure hope it looks better in motion! Another image was of a tavern scene with Luke Evans’s Gaston (from the back), and Josh Gad’s Lefou. Finally, we had Dan Stevens’ Beast in his not-so-beastly form of prince Adam (whose name was stated in products licensed by Disney, but not in the actual animated movie)… and he looks kinda old for hanging out with Emma Watson’s Belle, since both are in their late teens in the 19991 film!

Here’s some awesome Stranger Things‘ concept art for mysterious hollowed-out egg, an alternate design for the Upside-Down, and  alternate designs for Barb’s death that look way more brutal than what we actually saw. Aaron Sims Creative was in charge of said concept art, and Aaron Sims himself talked about the images with Screencrush. He had this to say about the egg:

The egg was a design for something you actually see a couple times in the show, whether you recognize it or not. There are a couple encounters where we see the Demogorgon hunkered over, eating something – when Nancy goes into the Upside-Down through the tree, and when Eleven finds the creature in her ‘vision,’ it’s hunkered over this egg, feeding off of it. It’s not clear whether or not this is the creature’s offspring – we don’t even know if it’s the same species. The only info we have is that the creature is feeding off this egg somehow.

Noelle Stevenson shared on his Twitter than her fantastic graphic novel Nimona is now a fully-cast audio book! The audiobook, available for pre-order on Audible, will run for 2 hours and 17 minutes. I’m glad we are getting more Nimona besides the FOX Animation’s animated film adaptation we will be getting some time in the near future.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Andrew Garfield, Amy Adams, Richard Armitage, Kristen Wiig, Ava DuVernay, Rupert Grint, Melissa McCarthy and Chris Pine.
