The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: This star of England, Glamour made his prize

Greetings, my dear geeks! Yes, I start this week by misquoting Shakespeare, and it’s all Hiddles’ fault. But fret not, we have much news on a wide range of subjects. So let us start already!

SATURDAY

So Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith actually got to carry the Olympic Torch around Cardiff Bay. I know I said I’d rather have David Tennant do it because CANON! But, I’m glad for the lad. I’m especially glad he didn’t fall on his face, like many feared. Why?

Look, Matt’s lovely, he’s a magnificent, brand new, hilarious, heartbreaking, heroic Doctor — but the fact is, if that man walks into a room with a coffee then it’s only so long before you’re wearing it. No, really, clumsiest man on earth. He walks like he’s in a constant state of surprise at his own limbs. I remember when he turned up at a Worldwide meeting really early on, and the first thing he did was spill a cup of coffee over a rather lovely woman. Naturally she giggled, flushed and introduced her mother. (Ahh, life when you’re Matt ! I accidentally made eye contact with the same woman — she phoned the police and shot me in the face.) On the way out he apologised to a completely different woman for the coffee incident. “That was the wrong woman,” I said, as he went out the doors. “Nope,” he replied, “That was the second cup.”

That was Steven Moffat, talking about how afraid he was about Matt holding a torch for “The Pandorica Opens” episode. And here they were, tempting fate again!

Anyway, the same day, good-old enabler friend showed me this trailer of Exit Humanity, which is basically The Walking Dead during American Civil War. Looks awesome! Check it out.

SUNDAY

Bad start, MIB3 took away The AvengersNº1 spot at the Box Office. It seems the Avengermania is passing… I’ll miss you guys, and I will keep stanning your future movies!

Watched the BAFTAs… Benny didn’t win, but congrats to Andrew Scott! He even cried a bit when he got his award. Also, Matt Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch gave away the special award to Steven Moffat… that was slightly awkward.

Soon after, another friend will send me a link to a podcast, which featured Amanda Abbington, the Sherlock Fandom Queen, where she talks about shipping, fandom and postcards, among other stuff.

Yes, they know about the porn.

    Okay… GDI!

As a matter of fact, two young men kissing is one of my favourite things (along with whiskers on kittens and brown paper packages tied up with string)!!!

And 4D… THE HELL EVEN IS THAT?!?!?!?! Does the film come out and give you a hug and tuck you in??? I dont’ even know how to feel about that!

And all I can say is I HATE THAT I CAN’T SEE THE SPICE GIRLS MUSICAL!!! SOOOOO NOT FAIR. This isn’t my inner 13-year-old. This is my everyday existence as I live and breathe and work on people’s taxes! Ugh… why do I live in America where I can’t do anything? Life… not amazing!

Now on to not so squee-like flailing… I can’t say I’m stoked about Les Mis. I actually think if you saw Phantom first, Les Mis just doesn’t stack up. I mean, I saw Phantom in New York three years before I saw Les Mis in London and not even the European epicness could make me like that musical. *sigh* Sorry to say this isn’t very exciting for me.

    But everything else… BEYOND AMAZING!

@Camiele, lol, it’s just that since I’m from Peru, I’ve never seen a grand-scale musical live, so Phantom I only saw dvds or online and while it was awesome, it was never as awesome as the rendition I’ve seen of Les Miserables XD Plus, I loved Victor Hugo’s book more than Gaston Leroux’s XD

      • Camiele says:

@mirella, Granted. Hugo’s book is unreal. One of my favourites, actually. But, it makes sense of you’ve only seen them on DVD. I get where you’re coming from. But still… 4D WHAT IS THAT?!?!?!?!

        • mirella says:

@Camiele, 4D is when the seats of the theater move, there’s breeze or hot, or smells… anything to add to the “cinematic” experience… which a scary movie, it will be interesting… let’s see if some people don’t pee their pants XD

@mirella, …O.o Oh. My. SHIT!!!!! That’s quite possibly the most intense thing I’ve ever heard in my life. You just blasted my mind.

You don’t usually like musicals? I thought you were the type of having a little gay man inside you. AND OMG, SPICE GIRLS VIVA FOREVER MUSICAL O_O xD

Also, is it going to be Charlize Theron’s week or what? Evil Queen and Co. then Prometheus? Back to back?
