The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Strange new world!

WEDNESDAY

Kevin Feige talked to Empire too! This time about Black Panther, and how the film is a “big geopolitical action adventure”. Frankly, that sounds amazing!

It’s a big geo-political action adventure that focuses on the family and royal struggle of T’Challa in Wakanda, and what is means to be a king. T’Challa’s story is very important to us as it links to the next Avengers films, which is why we brought it forward.

He also talked about the other upcoming Marvel movies (that are yet to start filming) like Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, where we can expect the roster to expand and Thanos won’t be there; Spider-Man, which would be “as big and spectacular a Spider-Man film as has ever been made”, while still being “the story of a 15-year-old kid going to high school”; and Thor: Ragnarok, which is “as totally different from the two prior Thor movies as Winter Soldier was from the first Captain America, we finally get more space and less Earth, and The Hulk is there.

Back to Doctor Strange new info, and we get a vague answer as to whether Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character is good or evil. I mean, dude is Mordo, who is a villain. But there are images of The Batch as Doctor Strange and Chiwetel as Mordo hanging out. So, what gives?

I think [Mordo and The Ancient One] both recognize in Strange this certain quality that they feel is going to be very useful in a situation they’re in — just by the nature of who he is, and the way that he operates, and the way his mind works, and the certain skill set and personality that he has. So, when they all meet, they realize that he’s somebody that can be plugged into this very surreal, interesting, sort of fascinating circumstance that they’re all in, and the dangers that they face. And so it becomes a process of assimilating him into their ways of life.

Well, that seems they will be allies… but maybe in the sequel?

As for Tilda Swinton’s character, she says The Ancient One’s gender is “in the eye of the beholder”~ Feige has his own thoughts about it:

Within the storyline of the comics, and our movie, ‘the Ancient One’ is a title that many people have had. We hit very early on on, What if the Ancient One was a woman? What if the title had been passed and the current Ancient One is a woman?

Then there was the time for Deadpool stills, from both Empire and Entertainment Weekly. And I sill love Negasonic Teenage Warhead even if she’s nothing like her comic version!

The CW will have two DC specials on January 19th! First, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow: Their Time Is Now, which is an in-depth look at the origin stories of the heroes and villains of their new series. Second is DC Films Presents: Dawn Of The Justice League, which will give us an inside look at Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the all-new trailer for Suicide Squad, and a sneak peek at the Wonder Woman film.

On excellent news for US people (and therefore not me), the United States Postal Service is releasing some 50th Anniversary Star Trek stamps, and they look seriously cool. The four stamps include:

The U.S.S. Enterprise inside the outline of a Starfleet insignia against a gold background, the silhouette of a crewman in a transporter against a red background, the silhouette of the Enterprise from above against a green background, and the Enterprise inside the outline of the Vulcan salute against a blue background. On the panel beneath the stamps, you’ll find “Space…the final frontier,” printed underneath.

Talking about Star Trek, Paramount and CBS are bringing a lawsuit against the crowdfunded fan-film Star Trek: Axanar. Well, that’s curious since they do have a history of tolerating and supporting such fan properties. Could be because this one is quite the big project, and that we will get a new Star Trek series (on CBS I expect). Although, considering it raised more than $1 million on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, and the aim is to make a studio-quality film, this isn’t a regular fan-film. The whole thing is kinda sad though, since the fan film looked quite good. At least, their first filmed and completed scene did:

After 25 years, creator Mike Mignola is bringing Hellboy‘s story to a close, with Hellboy in Hell #10 in early 2016.

I was looking at what I had done, and coming off one of the stories I realized, ‘Oh, we’re further along in some way than I thought we were going to be. We got where we were going a lot faster. I had some fun stuff lined up that I was going to do, but if I did it, it was just going to soften the impact, it was just going to ramble more than it needed to ramble. I thought, If we’re going there, let’s just go there now. So, yes, we’re wrapping up Hellboy in Hell.

Mignola also shared his list of essential Frankenstein stories for reasons. I mostly agree with it.

And here’s Finding Dory first look at two new characters: Bailey, a snub-nosed beluga whale, and Destiny, a.k.a. Sweet Dee, a whale shark. Both will met Dory when she visits a marine life rehabilitation center.
