The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Step into the spotlight!

THURSDAY

Check out War for the Planet of the Apes‘s first clip “Meeting Nova”… which is actually a a montage of scenes introducing Caesar’s silent young human ally. The blurb accompanying this video does provide some hints about Nova’s role in the film:

As the war between apes and humans intensifies, Caesar discovers that Nova is more important than he realized and the future of the planet is in his grasp.

Game of Thrones season 7 will have the show’s longest episode ever. The final two episodes of sais season will be clocking in at 71 and 81 minutes respectively. On the other hand, showrunner David Benioff claimed that “another [episode] is going to be our shortest episode at 50 minutes”. Last season’s finale, formerly the longest episode of the show, was 68 minutes. Game of Thrones returns July 16th, and the season 7 finale is set to air August 27th.

EW regaled us with a DuckTales exclusive! Here are the new designs of new and familiar secondary characters. I think they are mostly hits than misses, and here’s the one I liked the most, Goldie O’Gilt (“if Scrooge is like Batman, then Goldie should be like Catwoman”), and one I am not-so-sure about, Flintheart Glomgold (“More Scottish and even richer [than Scrooge]”).

FRIDAY

Let’s start with the crappy news. Despite all the renewal petitions, Netflix has said that they just can’t make it work with continuing Sense8. But… what about just one more episode? Like the Christmas special? The second season ended in what’s basically a cliffhanger. Specially for those who appreciate certain character dammit. Anyway, here’s their good-for-nothing letter posted to the show’s Facebook page:

We’ve seen the petitions. We’ve read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8, and we wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you. The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t. Thank you for watching and hope you’ll stay close with your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever.

According to some reports, Angelina Jolie and Jessica Chastain are being eyed for the same role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix… It’s Lilandra, right? Tell me it’s Lilandra, dammit!

Marvel is always ready to make the news about them, and for a moment there, they did make us take our eyes off Wonder Woman. It all started with the new Black Panther poster released on Twitter, which, let’s face it, was a better concept that execution… which is still a step-up from that awful Spider-Man: Homecoming poster. It’s not a totally bad poster (unlike, once again, that Spider-Man: Homecoming one), but they could have taken more effort in making Chadwick Boseman’s head “less floaty” among all the CGI.

But your personal feelings of that poster aside, Marvel dropped the bomb at night, the Black Panther teaser trailer, which made some noob geeks watch the NBA game (come one, it was going to be release on the internet at practically the same time). And oh boy, what a teaser it was! I think the 99% of geeks reacted favourably, and the 1% who didn’t, well who cares. The black nerd side of the internet was specially excited and almost moved to tears. I’ve yet to see one YouTube reaction who wasn’t happy by the end of it. That the trailer looked so great (with cool music even!), made the black community give Marvel a lot of good will. Some are already saying next Black History Month could be one of the bests thanks to this film, which appropriately premieres in February 2018.

Anyway, EW posted a very interesting trailer breakdown, that included some nice screencaps. We learn things like the interrogation scene between what appears to be the two white characters of the film happens in a safehouse in Korea. They also confirm that the first scene of shirtless T’Challa surrounded by his people is his coronation. And yep, “The Heart-Shaped Herb is how Black Panther achieves his powers”, confirmes director Ryan Coogler. Also, that guy with the emerald suit and lip plate? “The elder of one of the largest tribes in Wakanda”.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Angelina Jolie, Robin Lord Taylor, Jason Isaacs, Robert Englund, Paul Giamatti, Liam Neeson, Karl Urban and Natalie Portman.
