The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Rise of the Siren Genius~

THURSDAY

Doctor Strange has been described as psychedelic and very dark by the movie’s own cinematographer, Ben Davis. Well, Doctor Strange, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention!

It has a very psychedelic grounding, and it’s not your typical Marvel action movie. Most of the work within it is about other dimensions. And I described it, I think, when I was talking to Marvel as Marvel’s Fantasia, in a way, because it’s so sort of out there and different to everything else that they’ve done. […] It’s all very out there. I can’t really say much more about it, I’m afraid. But I think it’ll be really interesting, and it’s a very dark movie, I’m pleased to say.

As for the costume. Well, those who saw the concep art have described it as “very very dark” and that “Benedict Cumberbatch has never looked more menacing”. The more detailed descriptions says that “his costume isn’t too colourful. From what I remember, robes are blood red and green and cap is black”. And there’s definitely facial hair, a goatee to be specific.

That said, I don’t know how legit this is, but I have found this supposed “concept art” online. I don’t know, maybe it can be some detailed fanart. But if not, not bad I guess:

Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden has confirmed that they indeed had plans for an X-Men TV series. And as awesome as that sounds in theory, they have to negotiate with Marvel first. I wonder what are Fox’s rights over the X-Men exactly. Do they include live-action TV? Can Marvel get Fantastic Four back in they let Fox have the TV series. Will Marvel even want Fantastic Four back?

[For] X-Men, we’re in negotiations with Marvel. We’re hopeful we’ll be able to announce something soon. We’re not closed on a deal yet, but it’s something we’re definitely pursuing

Not happy with that, Fox talked about the craziness that is the Sleepy Hollow/Bones crossover for the Halloween-like date of October 29th. Bones executive producer Michael Peterson even had to gall to compare it to ‘a great episode of The X-Files. Damn, is it Halloween already?

The Bones/Sleepy Hollow crossover is like a great episode of  The X-Files, where the Bones hour is the Scully, logic-based perspective and the Sleepy Hollow hour is more Fox Mulder-esque. Put them together, and it’s going to be a great two-hour event that fans of both programs are going to love.

Curiously, the third season of Sleepy Hollow will no longer have the Headless Horseman. Not that I wanted more of that dude. That storyarc is over and done with, finally. Still, it is curious that the villain that the original “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” story was about is no longer there. I wonder what they will do now, besides that crossover, that is.

Sense8 co-creator J. Michael Straczynski and the cast talked about the reaction from the audienc, its future and the characters:

What’s kind of fun about the characters is that what they’re sharing are not necessarily superpowers. They have ordinary abilities, and we’re trying to say that there is value and merit and power whether you’re an actor or you are a martial arts person or a bus driver. You have something to contribute.

Since the departure of J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton from Kong: Skull Island, I was a bit worried about the project. Specially, since my fav, Tom Hiddleston was there still attached to it. But I breath a bit easier now. Samuel L. Jackson, is said to be in early talks for the role that Simmons vacated, while John C. Reilly is at the top of the wishlist for Keaton’s replacement.

FRIDAY

Apparently, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is so freaking awesome that Warner/DC want Ben Affleck to star in 3 stand-alone Batman movies. Yep, that means Batleck for the next 10 years or so. “Basically, Warners are now working their movie universe around Ben’s Batman”, said Den of Geek’s source. Well, damn. I mean, sure Batfleck could turn out to be the perfect Batman and still… damn.

Agent Carter producers talked about season two… and most importantly season two’s villain: Madame Masque! A 40s adaptation of Madame Masque that is, and she sounds fantastic:

I think we’ve changed the look of her a bit obviously. We’ve made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a ‘40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that’s part of what we’re mining with this character.

Lionsgate and Hasbro are making a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic animated movie. I mean, of course it is animated and thank Loki it is animated, but in this day and age you never know! Also,  Kristin Chenoweth will voice a new character in the film! I’m glad she’ll be in another thing so soon after the Descendants, where she remained the best part of the cheesy campy film that you need to watch drunk and eating junk food~ So, what’s the new My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic movie about? Well, standard plot, new dark force comes, the “Mane 6” have to stop it through the magic of Frienship. Also, there are songs!

Finally, James Wan will produce a new Mortal Kombat movie. Which is… FREAKING AWESOME! That said, That said, this new version has been described by the studio as “a departure from the mythology” with “darker, brutally real martial arts”. I guess no over-the-top fatalities? Also, I must confess that when I first read the news, I could slowly but steadily hear the Mortal Kombat Theme Song in my mind.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Jason Momoa, Sam Mendes, Wes Craven, Jesse Williams, Evangeline Lilly, James Gunn, Mark Strong, David Duchovny, Michael Shannon and Charlize Theron.
