The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: One bad day away

THURSDAY

This is the beginning of the end. Stan Lee announced that Fan Expo Canada will officially be his last Canadian appearance. The reason why? He… he’s getting old, you guys. Dammit, Time! The lovely interview with The Toronto Sun also touched the topics of turning into a celebrity, the Marvel Universe, and his favourites: Captain America and Spider-Man, his cameos in general, and his latest favourite: Deadpool‘s.

It’s so pleasant to go somewhere where people like you and want to hear what you have to say. It’s very flattering. But I’m 93 years old. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to do it. I want to make this one big event.

The new Daredevil teaser poster makes me think the guy really needs to remember his safeword! It was also released in the form of a motion poster, which apparently it’s a thing now. Besides that, we got some alleged new Daredevil Season 2 promo images that include The Punisher and Electra. Alleged because they didn’t appear through any official media.

As we are well aware, Disney wants to remake everything that worked for them in the past. The next candidate for that is Mary Poppins, and Emily Blunt is in talks to play the titular character. Here’s the catch though: it’s a sequel. Yep, sources say the new film “will take place in Depression-era London 20 years after the first film and will take story lines from P.L. Travers’ children books focusing on Poppins’ continued adventures with the Banks family”. But wait a minute. Emily Blunt in no way looks 20 years older than Julie Andrews looked back then! The hell! Guess that means the theory that Mary Poppins is a Time Lady is totally valid!

FRIDAY

Here’s Empire’s Captain America: Civil War covers! On one hand, we have Cap and Iron Man as immovable object and unstoppable force. Come one, boys, stop fighting! I love you both! The subscribers cover tho is half of broken Captain America’s shield and half of Iron Man’s broken helmet. Not pictured, my broken heart.

Anthony Mackie talked about the awesome acting of Captain America: Civil War, and apparently he’s so pumped that he thinks the movie might be nominated for an Oscar. Well damn, someone is either delusional or we might get the most awesome superhero movie yet. Mackie also mentioned that Mark Ruffalo might be in the film. Wait what?! So that time when he was supposedly spotted in Berlin (where Civil War is filming), partying with  the cast, he was doing a… cameo? Because Ruffalo himself said that his character was removed from Civil War. What’s the truth!

It’s more of an acting movie than an action movie, I feel like the story is very concise and interesting, and you get to see Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans and Scarlett Johannson and Mark Ruffalo and everybody just do really, really good acting. And then there’s action in it. The great thing about being in a Marvel movie? They have really good actors. I mean, Don Cheadle is in the Marvel Universe! I think it might be the first superhero movie that might be up for Best Picture.

It’s been confirmed that The Wolverine 3 will be R rated! But that’s nothing to do with Deadpool, you guys! Apparently, the team was pushing for an R rated film way before they saw Deadpool‘s box office. Also, it’s totally gonna be based in the comic book story, “Old Man Logan”.

J.J. Abrams announced Lucasfilm’s 2016 Star Wars Fan Film Contest! Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 PM on April 24th. There are several categories including comedy, animation, and non-fiction. And you can win a trophy,  autographed limited edition print of Star Wars concept art, and merchandising. The awards will be announced at Star Wars Celebration 2016, so that’s another geeky plus!

Marvel announced a comicbook adaptation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens! The creative team consists of Chuck Wendig, who wrote the 2015 novel Star Wars: Aftermath; Luke Ross, the artist of Marvel’s current  Hercules series; and Esad Ribic, from Marvel’s Secret Wars, as the cover artist. This five-issue limited series arrives in June!

OMG! Titan Comics will bring the Sherlock manga to US and UK! Yes, there is a Sherlock manga. Since 2012 in fact. And it is slowly adapting the first series of Sherlock into manga. Titan Comics will debut Sherlock: A Study in Pink in June, and will feature extended page counts, and new covers and art by such creators as awesome Alice X Zhang!

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Simon Pegg, LeVar Burton, Christopher Eccleston, Elizabeth Olsen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Benicio Del Toro.
