The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Nothing’s been the same since New York

THURSDAY

We started the morning with six new pictures from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Smaug will appear in the first movie… so at least, I’ll probably hear Benedict Cumberbatch for a bit! The Necromancer would be in the second one though~

Talking about my Posh Alien Prince, here’s an article about Cumberstans and Cumberhaters on the social networks. It’s full of lulz and second-hand embarrasment, therefore glorious!

Apparently Mathew Vaugh won’t direct the X-Men: First Class sequel. And Bryan Singer might replace him! This is giving me mixed emotions.

So the media finally caught the fact that Tom Hiddleston sent fanmail to Kieron Gillen in the last Kid Loki centric Journey Into Mystery issue. I admit it did distract me from my fangirl tears. I did a double take. Kieron even talked about it on his tumblr. Yes, I’ve been stalking Kieron’s tumblr too much. But never as much as Hiddles, our Sexy Dork King.

FRIDAY

New promo for Elementary! The case this week was so-so at best, but as usual you come back for Jonny and Lucy! I’m glad we’ll get them for a full season.

We also got a second The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey TV spot. Why am I finding this stuff so cute? It shouldn’t be!

And we got Wreck-it-Ralph stuff! We got an awesome featurette:

And a couple of cute clips with Fix-it-Felix and Vanellope von Schweetz.

Also, Empire keeps delivering the goods, the latest issue won’t be only about The Hobbit, but also will have new info on The Wolverine, starting with a new picture of the titular character. There’s also James Mangold saying the movie will apparently be set after the X-Men movies [1]:

Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all. Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him.

But apparently, The Wolverine will take place outside of all previous X-film continuity… and now I am a bit confused. Of course the fact that he describes it as a “Japanese noir picture with tentpole action in it” makes me want it anyway.

So let’s have the most surprising news for last, Universal Pictures wants to make The Legend of Conan… with Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan. Yep, the ex Governator will go back to the role that made him famous. And yes, this will be a continuation of that original 1982 film, so it will disregard both sequel and the reboot. Too bad for Jason Momoa, I liked him as Conan, but the movie kinda sucked.

Producer Chris Morgan says:

This movie picks up Conan where Arnold is now in his life, and we will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of Conan so much that I wouldn’t touch it unless we came up with something worthy. We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan’s Unforgiven.

Those are big words. Let’s see if they deliver… so, what does Schwarzenegger thinks about it?

I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again. I can’t wait to work with Universal and the great team of Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan to develop the next step of this truly epic story.

We’ll see, Arnold, we’ll see.

And that’s it for the week. This week has been very comic-book nerdy, hasn’t it? Indeed since The Avengers, Marvel has had an iron (heh) grip on my fangirl sensibilities and it’s not letting go. Of course, I have been a Marvel fans way before, but The Avengers really let me realise how many of us were out there. Oh well, here we have two articles: one talking about the Iron Man 3 promotional stuff that made me nod my head in agreement all the way, and the other an essay about the Kid Loki arc in Journey Into Mystery and and the nature of comicbooks that made me slightly bitter and shed a tear for my baby Loki. Oh yeah, that last one? It was pimped by Kieron Gillen himself on his Tumblr.
