The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Not Hogwarts, A History

THURSDAY

Empire Magazine continues to give us awesome geeky covers. Now we have two for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, one for the good guy rebels, and the other for the bad guy imperials~ On one side, we have  Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe; Jiang Wen as Baze Malbus; Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso; Diego Luna as Cassian Andor; and Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook. And they all look serious business… and like they need a bubble bath. On the other side, always fabulous Director Orson Krennic, played by Ben Mendelsohn, is flanked by a couple of more efficient-looking Death Troopers.

Accoring to The Wrap, Zendaya will play Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Homecoming! Zendaya was cast back in March to play a character named Michelle. But since then, at least one recent draft of the script has several clues that “Michelle” is actually Mary Jane, one of the most popular love interests in Spider-Man comics. As you can expect, some fans are already complaining, from purists to flat-out racists and everything in between. Even James Gunn ended up tweeting to shut down some of the comics, saying “If you’re complaining about the ethnicity of Mary Jane your life is too good”, and ended up writing a longer post on his facebook the next day.

For me, what makes MJ MJ is her alpha female playfulness, and if the actress captures that, then she’ll work. And, for the record, I think Zendaya even matches what I think of as MJ’s primary physical characteristics – she’s a tall, thin model – much more so than actresses have in the past.

In interesting yet weird fanart, Christopher Stoll has been publishing an art series called PokeNatomy, and that name is self-explanatory! Each one is quite detailed, showing the outer appearance and what’s inside, and explaining what each organ does. Here’s one of Bulbasaur, the first of the list!

FRIDAY

Here’s an awesome picture of Supergirl Melissa Benoist shared on her instagram of herself and Wonder Woman Lynda Carter, who will be playing the President of the United States in Supergirl Season 2! Of course, we also got many pictures of both women on set during filming, where you can behold Carter in all her speech-giving presidential glory!

Talking with IGN, Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel’s directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, said the two films will mark a new beginning for the MCU:

I can’t get into too much detail about who we’re introducing, but these two movies are intended to be the culmination of everything that has happened in the MCU since the very first Iron Man movie. In being a culmination, these movies are in some ways going to be an end to certain things, and in some ways, they’re going to be the beginning of certain things.

And talking about Avengers: Infinity War, Vin Diesel has confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be there! I mean, it was something we expected, but it’s nice to have a confirmation from someone from the MCU, even if it’s not an official announcement!

Michael Peña has confirmed his return as Luis for Ant-Man and the Wasp. Director Peyton Reed also said he couldn’t afford to lose any part of Ant-Man’s cast, and name-droppes Peña, with the likes of main characters Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas. Yep, everybody ended up loving his character and so he must return!

Finally, here’s a video of the unboxing of the Middle-earth 6-Film Collection we learned about on Wednesday. And Dominic Monaghan a.k.a. Merry, is the one who does the unboxing!

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Sebastian Stan, Jennifer Lawrence, Ben Affleck, Angela Bassett, Taika Waititi, Evanna Lynch, John Stamos and Jonathan Frakes.
