The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: May the covers be with you!

TUESDAY

Wired had a long interview with J.J. Abrams about, what else, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which also included new behind-the-scenes pictures. Here he is talking about how he’s coordinating efforts with Episode VIII director Rian Johnson~

The script for VIII is written. I’m sure rewrites are going to be endless, like they always are. But what Larry and I did was set up certain key relationships, certain key questions, conflicts. And we knew where certain things were going. […] I showed Rian an early cut of the movie, because I knew he was doing his rewrite and prepping. And as executive producer of VIII, I need that movie to be really good. Withholding serves no one and certainly not the fans.

Early Star Wars: The Force Awakens box office tracking are showing the film will have a record-shattering weekend, because duh! The film could open with $225 million, which is way ahead of both Jurassic World ($208 million) and The Avengers ($207 million). And that’s a modest prediction, since there’s zero competition on IMAX screens around that time.

Here’s a clip of Scream Queens that’s part of Jamie Lee Curtis’s tribute to her late mother Janet Leigh’s iconic scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic horror film Psycho~

Here’s the second trailer of Marvel’s Jessica Jones… and it’s fantastic! Look all the violence, and drama, and sarcasm and creepiness!

WEDNESDAY

Not happy with giving us the cover of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them last week, EW shows us they’re on a roll and present their 4 colletor covers of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Here are the two with the “classic” characters (there’s also two with the young’uns Finn and Rey)

Of course, with the covers, came the special articles. Like the one about Princess Leia, except she’s been rebranded. “She’s refered to as General”, said J.J. Abrams. He also waxes lyrical abour how brilliant Carrie Fisher is. And then, Fisher herself talked about her character and how she’s handling things:

“Not easily”, Fisher says, describing Leia as, “solitary. Under a lot of pressure. Committed as ever to her cause, but I would imagine feeling somewhat defeated, tired, and pissed.”

There’s also a three part article of basically comparing Harrison Ford to Han Solo, and what are his opinions about going back to the character, and what would he tell the future “young Han Solo” in the spin-off movies: ‘Talk to your director. Watch the movies. And welcome aboard. Make it your own’. Also, there was another bunch of new pictures!

On related Star Wars: The Force Awakens news, the first X-Men: Apocalypse trailer will be released with the movie! Here’s what executive producer Simon Kinberg had to say:

I can in fact confirm that information. Our first trailer will be on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s our first thing out there so it is somewhat of a teaser but it’s certainly longer than a minute and it has a ton of cool stuff in it.

Ridley Scott kinda said why he wants full control of the Alien franchise (and why Neill Blomkamp ain’t filming a new Alien film for now):

I’m trying to keep this for myself. I let the other one [Alien] get away from me – I shouldn’t have… I’m trying to re-resurrect the beast and let if off the hook for a while because I’m coming back into the back-end of Alien 1. I’m gradually getting to Alien 1.

OMG, Snowpiercer will be adapted for TV with Josh Friedman as writer. Dude did the Sarah Connor Chronicles and War of the Worlds. I am cautiously excited.
