The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: May the 40th be with you

THURSDAY

While not as great as the Star Wars covers, Entertainment Weekly finished the Game of Throne week with the reveal of their five Stark-themed covers (one for each remaning Stark and one for the all-together) and Stark family reunion photos! Because The North Remembers!

Back to the Vanity Fair issue about my preffered franchise, here’s an article on what in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and what’s not! And things that are not there include “no one-to-one equivalent of the Han-to-Leia, burning, unrequited love. In our story, that’s not a centerpiece”, which sucks for Stormpilot and thank Loki there won’t be Reylo either! There also won’t be any major non-human character, with “most of the creatures are peripheral characters, but they’re throughout the entire film”. And sadly, there won’t be new music from Lin-Manuel Miranda ala space reggae “Jabba Flow”.

What is in the movie is Adam Driver being quite serious in his role as Kylo Ren, going as far as declining having lunch and hang out with Mark Hamill. Damn, dude, stop being so method! Even poor John Boyega tried to cheer him up with some good old-fashioned hugging, and Mr. Moody and Intense just stands there and waits for him to be done. But yeah, dude is intense!

The things about that character that I find painful, that I really relate to, I kind of prefer to keep to myself.

Now it’s time to talk about superhero movies! Rosario Dawson is in talks for X-Men spinoff New Mutants, where she could play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, who serves as a mentor for the superheroes. Her character has the ability to generate an invisible bio-field around herself. Adding this to the nurse Claire Temple role in Netflix’s Marvel shows? Get that comicbook money, gal!

In other news, Silver & Black, Sony’s new “Spider-Man without Spider-Man” films that centers on Silver Sable and Black Cat, has found its director! Gina Prince-Bythewood has become the first african-american woman to direct a big superhero film! Prince-Bythewood also is set to direct the pilot for Cloak & Dagger.

FRIDAY

It seems that unlike its DCEU predecessors Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman ain’t gonna have an extended cut… in fact, according to director Patty Jenkins, they didn’t even have any cut scenes to put on the home video:

You know, it’s not like a long journey didn’t happen but what amazes me is how little has actually changed from the first cut other than tightening. Little changes to the final battle, that was really it. […] We didn’t cut one scene in this movie nor did we change the order of one scene in this movie from the script that we went in shooting with.

Finally, let’s finish with a laugh with The Simpsons once again releasing a short about the 45 himself in order to “celerate” his 125th day in office.

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to John C. Reilly, Doug Jones, Octavia Spencer, Cillian Murphy, Ian McKellen and Helena Bonham Carter.
