The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: May the 40th be with you

TUESDAY

OMG! Vanity Fair dropped the most beautiful Star Wars: The Last Jedi covers while the franchise prepared to celebrate its 40th anniversary this week. And the covers have everything you want! First, the titular Last Jedi, Rey and Luke Skywalker on planet Ahch-To. Second, the First Order trio, Captain Phasma, General Hux and Kylo Ren, looking more pissed off than ever. Third, fan-favourites Finn, Poe and BB-8, join new girl Rose Tico, all looking ready for action with warm brown colors. Finally, and the one that brought a tear to my eye, the one and only Princess Leia now General Organa has a cover all to herself. And yes, I want all the damn covers.

Check out these awesome Wonder Woman IMAX posters featuring the awesome ladies of Themyscira: Queen Hippolyta, General Antiope and of course Princess Diana. Also, the film got voted as the most anticipated summer movie of 2017 by a recent survey held by Fandango and director Patty Jenkins was quite happy about that~

Continuing with the weekly promotion of soon-to-premiere Game of Thrones season 7, here’s a poster where The Night King glares at us from the shadows. So yep, he will totally play a role of importance in the final battle for Westeros. Anyway, here’s for us waiting patiently for July 16.

WEDNESDAY

We got the Vanity Fair covers, but this day we had the cover story (and an on-set exclusive video) for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And it includes even more pictures by Annie Leibovitz. One of the new things that pops out first is those fancy aliens for the Canto Bight Casino. Yep, now we know where those behind-the-scenes pictures with the well-dressed aliens were from! The director Rian Johnson said that it was “a Star Wars Monte Carlo–type environment, a little James Bond–ish, a little To Catch a Thief.” And indeed it was nice to see the “luxury and wealth in this universe”, where we haven’t seen since Padmé “fancy-ass” Amidala and Naboo. And then there’s newcommers: Benicio Del Toro’s DJ, “the shady character”, Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Holdo from the Resistance looking all regal and stuff, and Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico who’s cute and plucky and has the largest new part… and then, there’s the Carrie Fisher pictures, and that quote by producer Kathleen Kennedy:

She was having a blast. The minute she finished, she grabbed me and said, ‘I’d better be at the forefront of IX!’ Because Harrison was front and center on VII, and Mark is front and center on VIII. She thought IX would be her movie. And it would have been.

Yep, here come the waterworks.

We had a teaser for Game of Thrones penultimate season, but here’s the full trailer with actual new footage!

Netflix sure likes its anime! Here’s the teaser trailer for their animated adaptation of Castlevania, which apparently is an adaptation of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Also, loved the bit with the NES console at the start~ So yep, my birthday month keeps getting better and better, with this one being available on July 7!
