The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Let the games commence

FRIDAY

The day started solemn, with Hans Zimmer composing a song dedicated to the victims of the shootings of The Dark Knight Rises midnight screening, properly named ‘Aurora’. He left the following message on his Facebook page:

‘Aurora’ is dedicated to those who lost their lives and were affected by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. I recorded this song in London in the days following the tragedy as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Aurora Victim Relief organization.

You can donate from 10 cents up to 2500 dollars here.

In more bat-related news, here’s the trailer of Batman: Dark Knightfall, a stop motion short film done with the Hot-Toys action figures! You know, Hot-Toys, the ones who make action figures so realistic some people confuse their pictures with the actual actors.

So I am still a bit bitter Mads Mikkelsen left Thor: The Dark World for NBC’s Hannibal, but hey he gets to be the title character there as opposed to just some (still unnamed) villain. But I digress. You see Hannibal gets more interesting the more I read about it; and recently they just landed Laurence Fishbourne to play Jack Crawford (the agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit). I liked Laurence in CSI, so yay!

Also, we have the official trailer of Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. The atmosphere looks right, even if the acting is not so good, and I don’t know what the hell Pyramid Head is doing there. Still, I am ready for this! I just wanna see if Sean Bean makes it!

And then, the Olympics took me over.

First with Bennedict Cumberbatch openning the BBC coverage of the Olympics… I cried. Damn it, Benedict Cumberbatch, you made me cry.

It’s as if Benedict Cumberbatch literally snatched Tumblr back from Tom Hiddleston, as some people said~

The ceremony itself took practically every existing cliché about the UK, and shoved them down our throats. I loved every second of it. In fact, this article sums up my feelings about it, more or less (except for their wish for Beckham in speedos… he is not the English gentleman I wanna see nearly naked). All in all, thank you, Danny Boyle!

There was only one thing, as a geek, that marred my perfectly British contentment. Where the hell was David Tennant and why wasn’t he lighting up the couldron with the Olympic Torch. The whole universe could have been destroyed, you know! And I am not the only one complaining.

Of course, my dear Hiddles, proud Londoner he is, couldn’t stop himself from tweeting his excitment, from beginning to end, which excited me more in turn. That lovely bastard.

So yeah, there was Olympics fever everywhere, including your Avengers.

Talking about Avengers (no, I won’t ever be bored about Avengers), they will apparently get $616 million worldwide, which is an interesting coincidence since the main Marvel universe is called Earth 616. Perfection~

And that’s it for this week, fellow geeks! No The Hollow Crown this week and I may be in need of the T.H.O.R. center. Who am I kidding, I don’t suffer from a Tom Hiddleston obsession… I enjoy it~

  1. wow, I’ve been waiting for Dancing on the Edge for a while. Yay Phil Coulson toy!

  2. Camiele says:

I love Spike Lee. I love OldBoy. I wonder if I’ll love them together…? This is one remake I’m more willing to give a chance because, yes, it’s an American remake, but Spike Lee doens’t sugarcoat ANYTHING! This shall be interesting and I’m sort of a little bit excited.

However, I’m less than enthused about the Sleepy Hollow and Battle Royale TV treatments, ESPECIALLY Battle Royale! You don’t just put something like that on CW (the albino offspring of the WB and UPN) and expect it to be good. Gosh… and WHY didn’t they think HBO was a better idea?

I’m also less enthused about the new Silent Hill if the first trainwreck of an attempt is anything to go by. Also, every game after the third one (well, and The Room… maybe) was pretty much not worth it. And since they decided to try to cram all of the first three games into the first movie (I mean, hello, the almighty Pyramid Head doesn’t appear until the second game), I wonder what they’re gonna try to do this time around. Still mad that they decided to use the cliche of a mom trying to rescue her child rather than a single father… that story line was just so much more interesting. The dynamic was completely different. Anyway, I’m going on an SH rage, which no one really needs. Plus, according to you and my brother the atmosphere DOES, at least, live up to expectation. I’ll check out the trailer and think about seeing this one.

Anyway, your fangirliness is always a blessing to my otherwise meaningless existence. THANKS!!!! :)
