The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: If we be worthy!

THURSDAY

Ms. Marvel is one of my favourite comics right now and here’s an interview with writer G. Willow Wilson about future issues, and the issues of being a new Inhuman Teenage Superhero~ Also, Wolverine is once again teaming-up with a young woman! And Lockjaw makes an appareance!

BTW, about Superior Iron Man? Here’s some elaboration by writer Tom Taylor on how much of a jerk Tony Stark is going to be coming October:

Yes, this is Tony. What you’re seeing in Superior Iron Man is a Tony Stark who’s seen both his worst and best impulses all let loose. It is Tony, but he’s going to be in a zone now where he’s never been. He’s more ambitious, cunning, egotistical … all of those quantities are unharnessed. He has a vision for the world. I like to think his position is defensible — controversial, but defensible.

EW keeps delivering on Avengers: Age of Ultron stuff. This time about twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (and their uncomfortable closeness), a well as Vision… who in the comics was created by Ultron and had a relationship with Scarlet Witch. So, why does Vision has the same voice as JARVIS (Paul Bettany)? Well, “it’s not coincidence,” says Joss Whedon.

Habemus new Paddinton‘s voice! Remember that Colin Firth left the project because “he wasn’t finding quite the right tone”? They wanted a younger voice and now they got it in Ben Whishaw! Dude was first reluctant, because of a bad experience in similar work and because he had  ‘no relationship to Paddington whatsoever, other than that I knew he wore a duffle coat and a hat’. Now he seems happier because his little niece will be able to enjoy his work. Hope it works out!

Talking about voice work, Jason Isaacs is once again a bad guy! He will be The Inquisitor in Star Wars Rebels! He is the villain charged with tracking down and killing the remaining Jedi after the Clone Wars.

He’s cold, he’s analytical, he doesn’t get angry. We all took care to make sure our villains have real presence and our heroes just can’t walk all over him. This isn’t like cartoons I grew up with in the 80s where you’d have the villain lose every week and yet every week we’d have to believe he’s some sort of threat. When The Inquisitor shows up, it means something significant and it’s a definite challenge for our heroes

FRIDAY

You know Big Hero 6? The Disney animated feature based on a comicbook that I showed some character pictures some pages ago? It’s going to have a prequel manga! Not a comic, a manga! And that’s a first for Disney! The manga will start with an “episode 0” story in the August 6 issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, with the first installment to follow in Magazine Special on August 20. The movie will premiere in November in US, and December in Japan, where it is called Baymax, because Japan loves robots.

Back to Marvel news, Marvel Studios gaves us five more movies dates through 2019: July 28 and November 3, 2017; July 6 and November 2, 2018; and May 3, 2019. Didn’t say which movies though. Some hopeful people (like me) want two of them to be Captain Marvel and Black Panther.

Kevin Feige also confirmed they are so not going to alter Captain America 3‘s release date “just because another movie plops down onto one of ours”, obviously implying Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also said that just because Scott Derrickson had done horror movie Doctor Strange will be one, the same way that just because The Russos were well known for their sitcoms, Captain America: The Winter Soldier was one:

But there could be scary moments. There are scary moments in all our movies! There are some scary people that Strange has to deal with, I will say.

Finally, Guillermo del Toro talks about Crimson Peak… and how his daughters are Hiddlestoners:

I think they will like him no matter what he does. (Laughs) My daughters could see him grinding poppies, they’d be like, ‘Ohhh, he’s so sweet! He grinds them so carefully.’ My daughters are first in line. He goes by them, they go, ‘Awww.’ There is the thing they said more than any other.

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Michelle Rodriguez (12), Patrick Stewart (13), Harrison Ford (13), Jackie Earle Haley (14), Travis Fimmel (15) and Donald Sutherland (16).
