The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Get that franchise money!

FRIDAY

Two new clips of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies, where we see Smaug if all his destructive glory; and then we see Bilbo trying to make his companions reason that thirteen dwarves cannot defeat an Elf/Human army by themselves, but Thorin says otherwise~

Comicbookmovie had an interview with Michael Rooker apropos of the Blu-Ray/DVD release of Guardians of the Galaxy~ Here he compares Yondu and Merle who end up being loveable assholes:

There’s something about both of these characters that have that inner core that allows for something to get in. That commitment, for Merle to his brother is that connection. For Yondu, it’s also still that commitment to that Earth kid that now calls himself Star-Lord. He raised him as his own. He really cares for him. He cares so much for him. He gives him advice as much as he can to give him, in his short human life, so that he can survive in a very alien environment. Where other creatures want to eat him. Those connections are very strong and I think fans connect to that. For me, I’m not sure what makes that absolutely work.

Talking about said movie, the soundtrack of Guardians of the Galaxy gets a Grammy nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Visual Media! As we all expected, really. Another nominees in the same catergory that I like is The Wolf of Wall Street soundtrack. Also, Frozen seems to be both in that category and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. For Best Song we have three favourite of mine: “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie, “I See Fire” from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and of course “Let It Go” from FrozenHere are the movie-related nominations~

Oscar Isaacs is currently in two franchises, and this week he had time to talk about both Star Wars: The Force Within [1] and X-Men: Apocalypse [2]~ In the first one who comments about his time in the set (“totally like living out a childhood dream”) and the use of practical effects:

There was just so much love poured into it and so much care. The thing is, when you rely on the latest technology to tell your story — and that’s it — that dates. It can date badly. Whereas, when you actually make the stuff, I think there’s something about that that is a little bit more ageless.

About Apocalypse, he talks about Bryan Singer’s interest of humanizing the character… somehow:

In the early conversations we talked a lot about that [Apocalypse’s distinct point of view and agenda]. Of course, you read the comic book, and [Apocalypse is] not so shaded with gray — except his face. [Laughs] That’s the only thing gray about him. Just as Bryan’s done with the other films, I think he seeks to find something a little more interesting than the archetypal aspects of the characters, which work really well in print, but for a film I think you want to see a bit more of the — for lack of a better word — humanity in [Apocalypse]; because ultimately this is a story about humans.

Roberto Orci will not longer direct Star Trek 3. Yay! He will still be producing so damn. The good thing is Edgar Wright might be the new director! So double yay! Apparently the reason Orci get boot out of the directing gig is his ridiculous premise for the movie. More yay for a less crappy script… I hope.

My sources tell me that the script Orci was working on saw the Enterprise, the Vulcans and a new alien race competing to get a time travel device. The Vulcans want to go back and stop the destruction of their planet, and the time travel schtick is what would allow Chris Pine and William Shatner to share the screen.

J.K. Rowling will write a Draco Malfoy story and more for the Christmas content in Pottermore! Starting on December 12, a new “surprise” will be released on the site every day at 1pm GMT, so yeah more than Draco Malfoy… maybe even a new potion or two”.

Stephen King’s It remake to shoot in summer 2015. Actually, the new It adaptation will  be split into two parts. Cary Fukunaga is currently  attached to direct the first one. Here’s the book synopsis for the ones who forgot:

The 1986 novel was famously adapted into a two-part television film in 1990. It centres around a group of children who must face off against a force that takes on its victims’ greatest fears, personified by Pennywise the Clown. Years later, they are forced to confront the evil again.

Let’s finish this column appropriately with two comicbook movies that just wrapped production! First, Peyton Reed announced on Twitter the end of Ant-Man filmed and asks us to “stay tuned”, whatever that mean (new poster? teaser trailer?). I just feel the principal photography was done quickly, considering all the problem the movie had to even start productions! Good job, team! Also announced in social media, this time Instagram, was the wrap of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice by the director of photography, Larry Fong. Congrats to you, too!

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Ben Stiller (30), Dean O’Gorman (1), Alfred Enoch (2), Lucy Liu (2), Amanda Seyfried (3) and Julianne Moore (3).
