The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Get that franchise money!

THURSDAY

Today was a day for casting news! The most important, for me, was that we finally have a Doctor Strange… and it is Benedict Cumberbatch! After dancing around the subject for months (and many close calls of Joaquin Phoenix getting the part and then backing out because dude doesn’t like multiple film deals), it’s been finally confirmed! You are free from the secret now, Benny Batch! Here’s the official press release from Marvel… and some fanart where Benedict’s head looks huge but the overall looks ain’t terrible~

About the same time, Ryan Reynolds teased on twitter that his role as Deadpool was totally happening. And then Deadline confirmed that Fox was closing a deal with Ryan Reynolds for the titular role in Deadpool, and that production of said movie will start on March 2015. I just hope it is very like the leaked test footage. The less I see Ryan Reynolds’ face and more of Deadpool’s wit the more happy I will be. I mean yeah, the movie will be PG-13 because R-rated movies don’t make as much movie but hey the test footage had PG-13 violence (and swearing!) and still looked great! Just don’t screw up, Fox. You already screwed up Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This is your chance to do it right!

On the Marvel/Netflix side, habemus Jessica Jones and Luke Cage! The lucky actors are Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter respectively. I am not very familiar with either of them but I enjoyed them in Breaking Bad and The Following~

On casting news that could come to fruition soon, Chris Pratt is in early talks to star in the Magnificent Seven remake with Denzel Washington. Get all the roles, Star-Lord! Yay for seven gunslingers who protect an oppressed Mexican village from outlaws… that is totally based on Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai.

On the actual first casting news of the day, we have the one from Spectre, which is the new Bond film! The new cast members include Christoph Waltz as Hannes Oberhauser (who was Bond’s ski instructor and considered his second father… which is curious since Waltz is like 12 years older than Daniel Graig), Lea Seydoux as Madeleine Swann, Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx, Andrew Scott as Denbigh and Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra! The title references the kinda ridiculous acronym (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) of this powerful sinister organisation. We also got a poster!

Talking about posters, we got the official one from Terminator: Genisys, who also debuted its first trailer!

Let’s talk a bit about the show I miss the most right now: Outlander! Protagonists Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe talk about how to deal with withdrawal (alcohol and reruns apparently… and I happen to agree), and how darker the show will get during the second part of the season:

Claire is trying to adapt to the specific code of morals and justice of this time. It causes really dangerous situations for her and Jamie. The political workings cause a rift between them. But they battle through it. That’s what’s so great about them.

On more TV news, crossover event between The Flash and Arrow gave the latest its best ratings ever! Yep, that means they will totally do it again. Not so in the near future, but soon enough! Also, can you image in DC decides more crossovers with the new series the want to make like Supergirl and Teen Titans? Awesome times!
