The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: From basement to mainstream

THURSDAY

Today started the New York Comic-Con and I found a couple of articles that resonate with me about why this is an awesome Con. First from the article in The Guardian:

When it comes to Comic-Con, San Diego may have the Hollywood glitz and glamour, but New York is home to Marvel and DC – as well as Peter Parker, Stark Tower, the Ghostbusters, Men in Black and more than a few of the X-Men. And what city got saved at the end of this summer’s Avengers? Well, it wasn’t San Diego, that’s for sure.

And then a quote from NYCC Show Manager, Lance Fensterman to The Wall Street Journal:

It is a massive celebration of all things pop culture. Geeks and pop culture have come of the basement, they’ve gone mainstream.

What interested me the most was what Marvel revealed at the retailer breakfast about their Season One graphic novels that update the origin/earlier stories of popular characters such as Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine… and then, there’s also Deadpool Killustrated, where fan favourite Deadpool goes killing literary classics like Moby Dick, Little Women, Sherlock Holmes, and Dracula. Yup, good times for all!

OMG the variant cover of Young Avengers is so awesome! Yes, it is illustrated by Bryan Lee O’Malley of Scott Pilgrim fame! Look how cute they are! Yes, O’Malley makes grinding teenagers cute. And Kid Loki is going “party hard” all by himself… which is, apparently, how Kieron Gillen himself dances.

Ridley Scott talks about Prometheus sequel:

You’ve got a person [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] with a head in a bag [Michael Fassbender’s David] that functions and has an IQ of 350. It can explain to her how to put the head back on the body and she’s gonna think about that long and hard because, once the head is back on his body, he’s dangerous.

I just want the adventures of Dr. Shaw and her sarcastic robot head! Now regarding the Blade Runner sequel rumor? It’s totally happening!

FRIDAY

Why are The Munsters so pretty in this remake? The only kooky thing about them is their clothing and they are not creepy enough! At least this Mockingbird Lane looks slightly better in motion.

We get an official synopsis of Thor: The Dark World:

In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Thor will also appear in Marvel Now’s Deadpool #1 . I approve of this!

In NYCC news, the Vertigo panel brings interesting news with Django Unchained in comic version, a Neil Gaiman’s Sandman prequel, and their newest project: Trillium, which is already getting lots of hype.

BTW, The Hobbit LEGO sets shown at the NYCC [1]? Made of cute! Better than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ones… sorry guys, you know I love you too!

And that’s if for the week. And before we go, let’s show you something that reawakened my Doctor Who feels! May I present to you Doctor Who: P.S., because Brian Williams became a fan favourite.

LOL, I cried for this more than when Rory and Amy actually left.

O.O CHARLIE BROWN ON THE BIG SCREEN?!?!?! Oh my god, if they fuck this up, my childhood will officially be RUNED!!! RUNED I SAY!!!!

That’s pretty much all I could process. I was going alone, enjoying the fangirliness, and THAT THING HIT ME IN THE FACE!!!! *sigh* I really… REALLY hope it’s not some CGI nightmare (like TMNT and The Smurfs… but it probably will be and my heart is breaking just thinking about it.

Hollywood, PLEASE don’t make me hate you more than I already do… PLEASE!

      @Camiele, well, while the TMNT movie wasn’t that good, I am digging the Nickelodeon show! That said, I want a Charlie Brown movie like the other Charlie Brown movies ;A;

“Here’s the trailer to remind you how pretty it was”

You should review Parade’s End and sell us on watching it.

    I can’t wait for Skyfall.

I’ve seen Amell on Hung before, but I’m not sure about watching Arrow yet. I think I’ll wait for it to air on Warner Channel. My biggest fear is a show that eventually becomes like Smallville.

Not a big fan of the Peanuts franchise, but I’d wait for a trailer to see if it grabs my interest.

  3. aw that P.S. scene should have been included! I really like all of the Pond-Williams-Song family but Amy and Rory’s departure scene left me cold. and I’m not even a hater!

Apparently… I’m so 50/50 on my liking of controversial looks. LOL

And you know why The Munsters looks like that, because it’s Bryan Fuller. It totally looks like Pushing Daisies 2.0 only without the magic.

And YUCK at those Jurassic Park concept sketches. >,<
