The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Definitely maybe not Khan

WEDNESDAY

It was a day full of interviews!

First, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Peter Jackson got asked about Smaug and Benedict Cumberbatch, the 48 HFR format, what other Tolkien stuff he added to The Hobbit, and the obligatory Star Wars question. Then we had an interview with Richard Armitage, who finds a relation between Thorin and Macbeth. And finally an interview with Martin Freeman, where he talks about his insights on Bilbo as well as his experiences filming the movies… and a question about Leonard Nimoy’s The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins~

And an article about all the British dudes in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I just love British dudes, ok?

BTW, Peter Jackson may be super busy right now with Hobbity business, but he hopes to release The Adventures of Tintin sequel in 2015. Wow, we’ll get four years straight of Peter Jackson movies!

Star Trek Into Darkness also gave us lots of interviews with director J.J.Abrams and actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine. They talk about how the sequel is not just for fans, more about this John Harrison villain, if someone dies and about possible romance. And everyone seems to love Ben, even if he’s a Star Trek noob~ He also confirms he’s definitely not playing Khaaaaaaaaaaan!

I play a character called John and not that other name. It’s interesting. Speculation is speculation and that’s all fun.

You better not be pulling a Marion Cotillard on me, mister!

New clip of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with awesome Leatherhead (the alligator mutant, just in case~)

The Pacific Rim trailer is here, we got some screengrabs and what we learned about the robots and the monsters.

THURSDAY

I am so tired but happy because I got to watch The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey! It wasn’t perfect, but it is lovely to return to Middle Earth, and I love ’em all! Here are the latest clips, one funny and one serious, from this movie I already watched. I also saw a lovely game of Fuck, Marry, Kill with Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman, courtesy of Josh Horowitz. Thank you so much for that, Josh. My answers are the same as Martin’s, but my reasoning behind them have more in common with Ian’s. Yeah, that might be TMI.

Oh god, the puns on the new posters of Warm Bodies are so terrible they are great.

Great Troll Moffat tells us what’s next for Doctor Who, including:

We’ve got Neil Gaiman doing the Cybermen – part of the impulse there was to say “Have we fully exploited the creepy factor of the Cybermen yet?” I thought Neil would be a good match for that.

Well, if anyone can make the Cybermen cool again is Neil Gaiman!

Finally, we got the Golden Globes nominations… here are British folks who got nominated~

There’s just sooooo friggin much I have to say right now, I don’t even…

Matt Damon!!! Just… GOD STAWP being so damn perfect ALL THE TIME! Dude, you’re married. It’s not like I’ve got much of a chance now *side eyes* But this film in which he is suddenly lockin lips with Liberace… possibly the greatest idea put in any film ever concevied by man!

OH MEH GAAAAAD!!!! Studio Ghibli DOING THINGS!!!! It doesn’t really actually matter what it is. As long as it’s something that I’ll end up (willingly) spending my negative cash on… it could be the worst thing in the world and I’d STILL buy it because… MIYAZAKI!!!!

Not quite sure how I feel about them remaking such a classic as The Mummy. Though, I didn’t see the remake of The Wolfman, so I suppose I’ve no room to judge, right?

And a quick question? Where did all this hate for Leo come from? I love him to death. I’ve ALWAYS thought he was a monster actor. Did something happen that I missed along the way?

I feel like next year shall be a movie-watching year for me. I promised myself I’d do more this year… yeah… STILL only saw two films… THE ENTIRE YEAR! But I plan on moving to a city that has ACTUAL city-type things that I’m interested in… *cough*PublicTransportation*cough* So I may actually have better luck at it then.

Again, always a pleasure to read your fangirliness, my dearest Mirella. Too bad I haven’t ACTUALLY made good on my promise to blog regularly. EH… maybe next year…?

      @Camiele, You’re welcome XD
I have nothing against Leo as a person or as an actor. He’s just seems too try-hard for that elusive Oscar that it doesn’t seem he enjoys his parts. But in Django Unchained, he looks like he’s having fun, and when an actor has fun with a role, it makes me have even more fun.

      • Camiele says:

@mirella, Ah! Well that does indeed answer my question… HaHa. Yeah, you know what I think he deserves an Oscar for SOMETHING. The fact he keeps getting snubbed, I suppose, WOULD make him a bit desperate to do whatever it took to get one, so much so he lost the love of the craft perhaps? Well, I’m stoked that he’s at least found his love for it again in Django.
