The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: DC’s dubious decisions

TUESDAY

Happy Birthday, Andrew Garfield!

Edgar Wright was all over the place talking about The World’s End, which lucky Americans got to watch this week, but of course he also got questions about his Ant-Man movie:

I think there’s something in that it’s a lesser known character, there’s hopefully more license. For the one percent of people who are like, “Wait, Hank Pym would never do that!” there’s 99 percent going, “Who’s Hank Pym?” So, to me, the source material is great but it also frees you up to be like: I’m going to make a movie. The movie is not going to represent 50 years of Marvel comics because that’s impossible. But I’m going to make a 100 minute movie — or 110 minutes.

In another interview, Wright talks about making Ant-Man more of a standalone movie and to keep it simple~

I like to make it standalone because I think the premise of it needs time. I want to put the crazy premise of it into a real world, which is why I think “Iron Man” really works because it’s a relatively simple universe; it’s relatable. I definitely want to go into finding a streamlined format where you use the origin format to introduce the main character and further adventures can bring other people into it. I’m a big believer in keeping it relatively simple and Marvel agrees on that front.

Thor will be in Disneyland! Yup, after Iron Man 3‘s succesful exhibit exhibit “Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries”, now it’s the time for Thor: The Dark World‘s! There’s gonna be Asgard and a Meet-and-Greet with Thor himself! Which I suspect is a regular dude in Thor garb and not Chris Hemsworth, but still. Sadly, no Loki. What is this bullshit!

Meeting Loki would be pretty awesome (it was certainly cool to see Tom Hiddleston make an appearance at the D23 Expo)! I’m afraid there are no plans at this time, though, to bring Loki to the park.

I guess they couldn’t get as awesome a person to play him like Hiddles. This still displeases me though!

Peter Capaldi is on the cover of the new Doctor Who Magazine! Here are some of the things we can expect from the article inside, including poor Clara having to deal with his almost crush on The Doctor when he suddenly regenerates~

And here’s what Steven Moffat had to say about Capaldi as The Doctor:

Doctor’s always said he’s thousands of years old, and suddenly he’s going to look closer to what we know he secretly is. He’s going to look like an older man. A fiercer man. He won’t be the dashing young man he was a minute ago, and I think that’ll be rather exciting…

Mmm, Moffat has a too high opinion of Matt Smith’s attractiveness~

So, Star Trek Into Darkness is releasing its DVD/Blu-ray, and there’s featurettes all over the place. Here’s one about that opening scene of Kirk and McCoy running through an alien jungle, as well as some concept art. Here’s one appropriately called “Khan’s Melodrama”. And here’s one where J.J. Abrams talks about the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan and how they knew fans were going to be pissed~

I thought, ‘We are definitely going to get in trouble.’ Fans would say, ‘Oh, he looks nothing like him. It makes no sense.’ The truth is, if I think something is good, that supersedes everything. This felt like the righteous way to go because he was so damn good.

Also, everybody keeps saying how much they look my Alien Posh Prince.

Here’s an awesome gallery of pages from Guillermo del Toro’s sketchbook that include his notes and drawings from proyects such as Hellboy, Blade II, The Devil’s Backbone, Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim and his development hell proyect Mountains of Madness.

Please, Hollywood, let this man make an H.P. Lovecraft story!

And here’s a summer box office analysis not of the blockbuster movie, but of the indie ones!

  1. Affleck played George Reeves (who played Superman) in Hollywoodland, didn’t he? so he’s also sort of played Superman haha.

can’t stop joking about Boston Batman with Casey Affleck as Robin and Matt Damon as Hush or someone like that.
