The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: DC’s dubious decisions

MONDAY

Here’s Benedict Cumberbatch looking all scruffy on Sherlock set. I bet Hobo-Holmes is a desguise.

Dude has also used his time on “setlock” to highlight current issues such as recent detention of a British journalist under anti-terror laws and telling paps to go photograph Egypt.

Luther‘ creator, Neil Cross, is back on Doctor Who to write for Peter Capaldi!

I am familiar with Peter Capaldi’s work and I am looking forward to it. There’s something about his physicality, his image, his wit, that evokes the Doctor. There’s something about him that evokes classic Doctor Who.

Neil Cross wrote this latest season’s The Rings of Akhaten and Hide.

Howard Shore gets “Best Original Film Score of the Year” nod for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey soundtrack, by The World Soundtrack Academy.

OMG, the director’s cut of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed will be officialy released to home video in 2014! Cliver Barker had things to say about it. Lots of things:

I had a dream about the tribes of the moon. They would live in a city called Midian and, though they were monsters of every shape and size, they would be the heroes of a movie called Nightbreed. However, when I made the movie, the studio was not comfortable with this inversion of the classic structure. They wanted the monsters to be simple-minded scare machines, while I wanted them to be the dark side of all of us, mysterious and misunderstood. Finally, with this new version of Nightbreed, which contains over forty five minutes of previously unseen material, my original vision has been realized. Come with me to Midian, the city of monsters. The tribes of the moon await us.

J.J. Abrams is a tease. Nobody is surprised. But this certainly doesn’t look like Star Wars… or the Cloverfield sequel I want/not want. Must be a new TV series, that are not Almost Human or Believe:

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro offered full funding to Woody Allen if he were to shoot a movie there. And he is very insistent!

I so want him to come. I’ve already done all kinds of things. I talked to his sister, I sent him a message through [Spanish architect Santiago] Calatrava, who is his neighbour in New York.

Man, they really want him there!

Only Lovers Left Alive, with flawless Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston, gets an UK distributor. I am still waiting for someone to bring it to my country, dammit. Also, it will be in the New York Film Festival alongside with Hayao Miyazaki’s Kaze Tachinu, Spike Jonze’s Her and many other awesome (and not so awesome) movies. Lucky bastards everywhere!

Now, back to the usual comicbook movie news, Mark Millar says that the Fantastic Four share the universe with X-Men (both Marvel heroes whose rights Fox owns):

Without question I think you have to see some of these guys showing up in each other’s movies. I think the most exciting thing in superhero movies, until The Avengers came along, was when Nick Fury showed up in Iron Man. Even though it was a guy with an eye patch it was really cool – and I expect we will see more of that.

Kick-Ass 2 director, Jeff Wadlow, talks a bit about his future X-Force movie:

Let me put it like this. It will seamlessly exist in the X-Men cinematic universe, but it’s not a sequel.

Remember that leaked footage of Guardians of the Galaxy that had us geeks all excited? What are our chances of an official release? “Zero percent chance”, says director James Gunn.

I know a lot of you have seen the shaky camera footage, but it was made after 12 days if shooting and isn’t a true reflection of the awesomeness we’re trying to create for you.

New Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. video about the only cast member I really care about, which is Clark Gregg. Here’s also a collection of other character’s intro~

  1. Affleck played George Reeves (who played Superman) in Hollywoodland, didn’t he? so he’s also sort of played Superman haha.

can’t stop joking about Boston Batman with Casey Affleck as Robin and Matt Damon as Hush or someone like that.
