The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: DC delays, Marvel celebrates~

TUESDAY

Jaguar will have their first commercial during the Super Bowl. And that’s fine and dandy. But you know what’s better? The theme will be villains. British villains! Tom Hiddleston, Ben Kingsley and Mark Strong will be directed by Tom Hooper, and it will be a fest of villainy and Britishness!

Talking about Hiddles news, Only Lovers Left Alive is close to premiere in UK (February 21st), and for that they have released a new teaser, as well as some new pictures of the film, where everybody still looks damn pretty. Feast your eyes on Tom and Tilda’s ethereal beauty.

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are back for the next three Avatar movies, because duh. Specially for Worthington. I mean, Zoe has made a nice place for herself on sci-fi/space movies, but I haven’t seen Worthington doing anything note-worthy, geek or otherwise! Here’s what James Cameron said about it:

Jake Sully is a rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength. Zoe captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora.

So, apparently Fox is going to make a Magic: The Gathering movie. If you don’t know what Magic: The Gathering is, you need to turn in your nerd card. I’m not saying you need to play it, just know what it is. For you newbies, Magic: The Gathering is collectible-trading-card-game that started back in 1993, and it’s still quite popular. But is it popular enough to launch a franchise, which is clearly what Fox wants? Not sure. I just hope it retains most of their designs because I always found the art on the cards fairly pretty~

You know that new TV series DC is making called Gotham that was supposed to be about Gotham before Batman. Yeah, TV Guide claims it “will have a young Bruce Wayne, with an origin story that leads to Batman putting on cape in final episode of series”. Fox Chairman Kevin Reilly practically confirmed this:

This is all of the classic Batman characters, with a young Bruce Wayne, with Detective Gordon before he’s Commissioner Gordon, with the Penguin, with the Riddler, and with the Joker. All of those characters are going to arc and become who they are. […] We’re not starting in that world where the villains are in costume. You see markers for it that are kind of delicious. You begin to see the evolution of the eccentricities that become those characters, but you really sort of arc there. We don’t start out in capes and costumes.

Also, that possible TV series about John Constantine, imaginately called Constantine, is so going to happen, and on NBC. I still wonder how will that work with Guillermo del Toro’s Justice League Dark movie, which should also feature John Constantine. That say, the guys at Arrow did say that their TV series was in different world from DCCU, so maybe that’ll be the same case with Constantine.

On a curious news today, there was this info that Johnny Depp was in “early talks” for Doctor Strange. Something I really wasn’t enthusiastic about, and not because Johnny Depp has been kinda sucking lately. I just truly think he’s not suited for the role. Anyway, first the rumor, then a possible confirmation from Variety. And the Variety altered their story with no explanation whatsoever. In the end, Deadline said that while Johnny Depp was approached for the role, it was ages ago and it didn’t go anywhere.

Scarlet Johansson read The Avengers: Age of Ultron script she was given. And she totally aproves of it. Dammit, I want that movie now and they haven’t even started filming!

I think the script is dark and it’s dry, it’s got this amazing one-liner, glass-cutting sense of humor. Obviously the script is very cerebral. It doesn’t lose that exciting comic book aspect that people enjoyed in the first film, but it’s smart and it feels like the next installment.

Some geeky dudes have been doing their homework and now they claim that Ant-Man will start in the past, specifically the 60s, with a young Hank Pym doing his super-hero thing, and then there’s Hank Pym in this day and age (as Michael Douglas) working with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) on the plot of “To Steal an Ant-Man”.
