The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Dawn of Box Office!

TUESDAY

Squirrel Girl is getting her own graphic novel (called The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up The Marvel Universe!) and it’ll be released this October. Here’s part of the solicitation text:

Squirrel Girl has defeated Thanos, Galactus, and Doctor Doom. TWICE. But in this all-new graphic novel, she’ll encounter her most dangerous, most powerful, most unbeatable enemy yet: HERSELF. Specifically, an evil duplicate made possible through mad science (both computer and regular) as well as some Bad Decisions. In other words, SQUIRREL GIRL BEATS UP THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!

Director Joe Russo said that, at its core, Captain America: Civil War is a “Love Story” between Cap and Bucky. YES! Poor Tony tho!

What’s fascinating about the Cap-Bucky story as well is it’s a love story, These are two guys who grew up together, and so they have that same emotional connection to each other as brothers would, and even more so because Bucky was all Steve had growing up.

On the DC side of things, WB Producer Deborah Snyder promised that every DC Movie is a totally different experience. So, not every DCEU movie is joyless and full of serious “realism”? Yay!

They’re so different from each other. [Suicide Squad director] David [Ayer] has created this really fun movie about bad guys trying to do good, and it’s brazen, and it has just a really great tone to it, so it’s really fun. And it’s so different from BvS and it’s completely different from what Patty Jenkins is doing with Wonder Woman. With Wonder Woman, it’s an origin story, it takes place also in World War I, so as you can imagine you’re kind of in a completely different world.

WEDNESDAY

Getting ready for Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ arrival on Digital HD (April 1st) and Blu-ray/DVD (April 6th9, we got a trailer for the deleted scenes, and new images courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. And the descriptions of the deleted scenes are awesome! Kylo Ren on the Millennium Falcon! Finn and Rey stealing snowspeeders! Han Solo et al in a confrontation with Stormtroopers in Maz Kanata’s basement! And much more!

The LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens gameplay trailer was released! The game, which will be released this June 28th, will have additional storylines for Han and Chewie before they meet Rey, and there’s more Poe! It even has backstory of Lor San Tekka! Also, it’s freaking adorable! Just look:

Almost three years after Man Of Steel premiered, Zack Snyder still cannot understand why people were complaining about Metropolis destruction and the huge loss of life, and instead whined that Star Wars: The Force Awakens had more collateral damage… by a weapon fired by the bad guys. It’s not like Rey and Kylo Ren were fighting in Starkiller Base’s control room and accidentally blew up the Hosnian system!

What about [Star Wars: The Force Awakens]? In Star Wars they destroy five planets with billions of people on them. That’s gotta be one of the highest death toll movies in history, the new Star Wars movie, if you just do the math.

I am always glad when Oded Fehr gets gigs! Dude will now be in Marvel’s Most Wanted as a villain. Also, here’s tentative key art of said show:

Just like with Fullmetal Alchemist, Game of Thrones‘s screen adaptation has outpaced its source material, ans so we will get to different versions of the story. Thanks for being a slowpoke, G.R.R. Martin! Here’s what showrunner Dan Weiss had to say:

What makes the books so great is that George doesn’t make meticulous blueprints for every beat of this story and then fill in the blanks dutifully going from A to B to C, fleshing out an outline. At a certain point, we realized we were going to outpace the books and we kind of chose to see it as a great thing on both sides – there’s this amazing world George has created and now there are two different versions, and there’s no reason we can see why you can’t be thrilled and surprised and dismayed by both of these different versions of this world.
