The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Dark Phoenix doesn’t look so hot~

THURSDAY

Entertainment Weekly released their first look issue, and gave their cover to X-Men: Dark Phoenix… and man, I really want that photoshop work on Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey to be from EW (which have had some shody photoshop work on their covers before), and not how she will look in the actual movie. But hey, the other pictures look decent! The X-Men go to space! Yay! And someone dies! Yay? Other X-Men articles include why Jennifer Lawrence returned to the role of Mystique [1], how Jean Grey’s transformation in deep space looks [2], when what the hell happened in X-Men: Apocalypse [3], Jessica Chastain talking about her secret shapeshifter role [4], a brief history of Jean Grey in the comicbook [5], and yep, Magneto’s mutant island Genosha will appear in X-Men: Dark Phoenix [6].

On other Marvel-Fox properties, here’s a promo image of the New Mutants kids, and also a new poster~ We have Blu Hunt as Mirage; Charlie Heaton as Cannonball; Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane; Henry Zaga as Sunspot; and Anya Taylor-Joy as Magic, sporting what seems to be a Lockheed the dragon puppet in her hand. The film is set to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.

Well damn, Justice League‘s disappointing box office performance has led to a big shakeup at Warner Bros that will take place in January. The studio is “expected to name a new person to run point on DC’s films”, there are no immediate plans for Snyder to direct another DC movie, and is “highly unlikely” that Ben Affleck will return for Matt Reeves’ Batman movie. He is expected to appear in Flashpoint tho!

Also, Warner Bros. might release an extended cut of Justice Leaguea Joss Whedon extended cut! LOL. Hey, at least one of those fan petitions might get its wish! Yep, there was another one, but this one wanted an all Joss Whedon cut of Justice League.

Apparently, Kathleen Kennedy wants to bring Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to the Star Wars universe, and she thinks “he has exactly the right sensibility” . While we say yay, Taika had some reservations when asked about what was just a nice thought excercise… but he did say he “would love to”. Because of course he would.

Aw, Kevin Feige is proud of those Rotten Tomatoes-Certified Fresh plaques all the Marvel movies have:

We always want those Rotten Tomatoes-certified fresh plaques, right?. We’re not going to get many other kinds of awards, but we take great pride in them. I’m always saying, ‘Ryan [Stankevich, Disney publicity S.V.P.], where’s our Rotten Tomato?’ Because Rotten Tomatoes are great. They send this little Lucite, certified, fresh thing with the name of the movie on it. We got them lined up around here. We take pride in it. There are cases where audiences and critics are not aligned. But I think, for the most part, they are, and I like it when people like our movies.

Marvel is developing a new animated movie that will premiere in late 2018: Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors. And before that: six four-minute shorts, each focusing on Gwen Stacy a.k.a. Spider-Gwen a.k.a. Ghost Spider! The cast includes Kathreen Khavari as Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan, Cierra Ramirez as America Chavez, Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl, Chloe as Daisy Johnson/Quake, Dove Cameron as Spider Gwen, Tyler Posey as Inferno, Kamil McFadden as Patriot, Kim Raver as Captain Marvel, Booboo Stewart as Exile, Dee Bradley Baker as Lockjaw and Tippy Toe, and Ming-Na Wen as Hala. Here’s a featurette and a poster:

Here’s a new trailer for Black Lightning, which debuts on January 16, 2018 after The Flash on The CW. So yep, Black Lightning will air alongside shows that are part of the network’s shared Arrowverse universe, but show is presently not connected to the other series. However, showrunner Salim Akil hopes that there will be opportunities in the future, once Black Lightning gets established.
