The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Comic-Con hangover!

TUESDAY

So, Marvel announced a Princess Leia Star Wars comics mini-series at SDCC. And I am quietly flailing. Quietly because it will be just 5 issues. It will be part of three titles that deal with the aftermath of the destruction of that first Death Star right at the end of Star Wars: A New Hope. One about the adventures of the main cast, another for Darth Vader (which I will probably also pick up because Kieron Gillen is writing), and of course Star Wars: Princess Leia. The story will explore Leia as the new leader of the rebellion, as well as the personal impact of the destruction of her homeworld Alderaan. Here’s what writer Mark Waid had to say about her:

She’s such a layered character… Once the Death Star is destroyed and the adrenaline dies down, how does she deal with the loss of her entire world? What are her responsibilities as the Princess of a planet that’s no longer there? Will she choose to rebuild her heritage—and if so, how and with what resources?

On more comicbook news, some lucky bastard got her hands on Titan Books’ Doctor Who comics, and decided to write why you should check them out. Apparently they are awesome. The (great) reasons are: more stories, more time with 10 and 11, great characterization, the TARDIS pool (finally!), more time with the Ponds, and Sontaran stand-up comedy because why not! Yep. Those look awesome!

Talking about Docto Who, Empire Magazine had an interview with new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, and man does that fellow seems to be in charge or what. I hope it means Moffat will be less of a Troll as far as Doctor Who is concerned:

It can become a kind of franchise where it’s not a real character at all, but just an amalgam of elements that people think are Doctor Who: a scarf, a bow tie… I wanted to be the actual Doctor Who.

You know how Legendary is going to make a King Kong movie, a prequel apparently, called Skull Island? Well, they want Joe Cornish to direct. Man, dude has been offered some stuff since he directed Attack The Block, but nothing has come to fruition. Hope this one does!

Remember how we are all waiting that Expendabelles project or the similar one with Gina Carano? Well, the studio that created Sharknado beat them to the punch and I’ve just made aware they have a trailer for their own “Expendables with a female cast” movie. Yes, yes, Sharknado creators are not most known for their quality, but hey it’s something! It’s called Mercenaries and the cast is awesome: Kristanna Loken (Painkiller Jane TV series), Vivica A. Fox, Zoe Bell (awesome stuntwoman and the star of Death Proof), Cynthia Rothrock, and Brigitte Nielsen (Red Sonja).

WEDNESDAY

OK, fine! The first reactions to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are pretty positive. It was shockingly good and very funny, apparently. I guess I will check it out even if the Turtles and Splinter still look goddamn awful~

Chris Evans acknowledges his feels for Marvel and how being Captain America changed his life! Good luck his manager convinced him to do it, then!

In every way possible. it’s personal, emotional…I was apprehensive jumping on board but in retrospect it was the best decision of my life. It’s afforded me a lot of creative opportunities outside of the Marvel franchise and it’s afforded me a lot of opportunities to learn and grow as an actor and as a person and it’s endless, really.

So yep, it’s been basically confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy will met The Avengers, or at least some of them. And director James Gunn (and the cast) is pretty sure they won’t get along well, since the Guardians are “jerks” and the Avengers, for all their issues, are still “do-gooders”.

We talked about all sorts of possibilities [for a crossover], and I kind of know what the bas ic plan is. That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians. But, we do inhabit the same universe and they’re pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other.
