The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Comebacks old and new

THURSDAY

Today, Vikings come back for a second season, and here’s an useful guide full of teases about what to expect in the first episodes. Seems it’s gonna be awesome!

Ben Wheatley talks about his big screen adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s High-Rise, and how he ended up casting Tom Hiddelston for the lead character.

Ames (Amy Jump, his screenwriter and wife) and I cut some faces out of film stars we liked. Tom Hiddleston’s face was, disturbingly, on a whiteboard in our kitchen for quite a long time. It’s scary. I don’t think he knows that. He was our number one choice. You can see in the choices he made, if you go from Archipelago to Thor, it’s a pretty broad spectrum. He’s a very smart guy. I was chuffed.

OMG Rocket Raccoon will have his own solo comic series starting on July 2nd! Man, the geek enthusiasm sure has given Marvel a lot of faith in the character. The best part? It’s gonna be written/drawn by fan-favourite Skottie Young! Here’s what he’s got to say:

I like any of the humorous characters, any of the ones I can have fun with. And around this time Guardians of the Galaxy was getting restarted, so I said if there was any of way of doing some sort of Rocket Raccoon story that would be fun too!

Aw, Ben Kingsley really loves Trevor Slattery in Iron Man 3/All Hail The King~

I love telling the story. I love being useful to the telling of the story – and his story was so charming in a way. Trevor’s a very vulnerable man. And he’s a great survivor. Even in prison, he creates his own environment. It’s always good to find something in a character you admire and I admire Trevor’s capacity to survive and adapt. He’s a chameleon.

OMG! ABC will air a Marvel special called Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe on March 18 at 8 p.m. It will include an Avengers: Age of Ultron sneak peek! Whatever than means considering they started principal photography like a couple of weeks ago~ Of course, the special will also have new footage from Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy and from upcoming episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

FRIDAY

For the first time in forever, the Oscars will stream live online through WATCH ABC.com! Good news for those who pay for ABC and cannot have access to a TV I guess~

OMG, what is this traversty? Sure, Jeff Goldblum in talks for Independence Day 2 and that’s yay since we ain’t getting Will Smith, but no word on Jurassic World? I want somebody of the original cast in Jurassic World dammit.

Apparently, Patrick Wilson is in negotiations to be in Ant-Man. The negotiations were not confirmed by Marvel, but if it’s true I suspect he could be a young Hank Pym~ As in Michael Douglas with 30 years less.

And here’s how Grant Gustin looks like as The Flash… not bad, but the helmet/mask thingie totally reminds me of Captain America‘s, except red.

Our Dear Bryan Fuller talks about Hannibal Season 2 and the possibility of having Clarice Starling on the show~

I think after we finish this second season and it airs (because Clarice would still be a season or two away), I would be curious to check in with MGM to see if they’re still holding fast to that “what’s ours is ours and what’s yours is yours” approach or if the Clarice Starling series is still happening for them at Lifetime.

To wrap this up, here are John Finnermore’s final words on Cabin Pressure on his blog. It gave me the feels.

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Dakota Fanning (23), James and Oliver Phelps (25), Sean Astin (25), James Wan (26), Amanda Abbington (28)

  1. Mirella, great post, but are you sure about some of those ages on the birthdays?
