The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Comebacks old and new

MONDAY

Habemus new Doctor Who companion! I just hope Danny Pink ain’t a Mickey redux… only because they keep mistreating poor Mickey. Also, please no love triangles. Actor Samuel Anderson seems happy about his new role though! The character is a Coal Hill School teacher, just like Clara Oswald.

I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!

Here’s a small interview with various members of th Vikings cast! Travis Fimmel (‘Ragnar’) also talks a bit about his son Bjorn, who will age 4 years (and get a new actor)… I just hope he is as sassy as old Bjorn. And that Floki lives… seems unlikely with that old Comic-Con trailer~

He wants his sons to do well. He’s very tough on them. He’s very tough on Bjorn this year, his elder son. Especially, there’s a fight that happens, and his son messes up, and it really, really annoys Ragnar because he doesn’t want anything to happen to any of his children.

Here’s Hannibal Season 2’s opening fight scene. It is indeed brutal, but kinda sexy… Yes, I have issues. Slam that cannibal, Crawford, slam him good! And there’s blood on poor Hannibal’s kitchen and wine cellar! Apparently the whole season is a flashback after this scene.

Also, we are getting lots of merchandise for the show! Including clothing, accessories, fragrances and even home furnishings and decor! May I get cooking books and funko pops please?

Here’s a brief description of what we’ll probably get in the first 10 minutes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It is obviously very spoilery… but seems pretty good! Also, at 2 hours and 16 minutesCaptain America: The Winter Soldier is Marvel’s second-longest movie. The longest one is, of course, The Avengers with 2 hours and 23 minutes.

James Gunn talks about Guardians of the Galaxy, and among talk about Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon and Groot, there was some brief talk about Thanos and his motivations~

Here’s the thing, truthfully the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes out of both the 616 and Ultimate Marvel Comics universe, and then they recreate some elements themselves. What Thanos wants in the comics is not necessarily what Thanos wants in the movies; we don’t know yet.

Here’s the poster of All Hail The King Marvel one-shot, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. And nope, it’s not made by Mondo~

Also, Bryan Singer has no idea what he’s talking about concerning the popularity of X-Men in the Marvel Universe and pop culture~ X-Men, specially Wolverine, are damn popular! And even the non-geek watched the 90s X-Men animated series! Believe me, people my age new who were the X-Men, maybe they were not as popular as Batman and Spiderman, but the sure were more popular than Iron-Man or Thor. Also, how come he includes Spiderman in Marvel movies and not X-Men? The hell!

I am conscious of the audience outside the fan base, particularly with X-Men. Because if you really compare the success of the X-Men films versus the Marvel films, you see Marvel’s reach is so much greater. My mom, everyone knows who Hulk is and Spider-Man — well, that’s Sony, but it’s still Marvel. But X-Men has always been a little bit of the bastard stepchild of the comic book universe. It’s its own thing, it’s very rooted in… it sort of exists on the outside. And it’s not instantly… I didn’t initially know who Wolverine was or any of that, but I knew who Spider-Man was and who Batman was.

Jeffrey Katzenberg hints that we might get another Shrek movie in the future. *sigh* Stop it already, dammit! The first two were flawless, but then it’s been going down in quality.

We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest. But I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he.

And the rumours about Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman’s involvement with Star Wars: Episode VII continue! At least, this time is from the guys who actually gave us the news of a new trilogy, so I am a little bit more inclined to believe them. But just a little. Anyway, as the website says, here’s the interesting part:

I believe Cumberbatch and Oldman were pursued for the same role. I don’t know how that will work out with the script changes, but I’m told they are both involved.

Talking about Benny Batch, he’s one of my favs who will be presenting at this year’s Oscars~ We also have Marvel’s Samuel L. Jackson (he’s Marvel’s no, ok?) and Chris Hemsworth, as well as Christoph Waltz, Ewan McGregor, Brangelina and a long etc.

  1. Mirella, great post, but are you sure about some of those ages on the birthdays?
