The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Beauty and The Purple Man~

MONDAY

Casting time! And the biggest news (for me) was David Tennant getting to be part of MCU! OK it’s for one of the awaited Marvel/Netflix series but still! He’s going to be the villain Kilgrave in A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Yay! Tennant is awesome as a villain! Not so yay because Kilgrave will probably be The Purple Man (Zebidiah Killgrave) and that dude is kinda “rapey”. I know we are promised gritty stories for the Marvel/Netflix series but can we not have the classic trope of “I got assaulted and now I want revenge” for female superheroes. I am dude was the reason she stop using the codename Jewel and reverted to her civilian name as a private investigator. Anyway, glad to see Tennant in Marvel stuff, hope Kilgrave can be as gritty as he can without being a creepy rapey mofo~ Here is what Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of TV, had to say about Tenny:

Anyone familiar with David’s work knows he brings an incredible level of dedication to any role he inhabits, a level we knew we would need from the man playing Kilgrave. While most know him for his roles as a hero, we can’t wait to unleash a whole new side of this talented actor.

Another interesting casting news is Emma Watson will be star as Belle in Disney’s live-action musical Beauty and the Beast. Yep, she’ll get to play Belle after all! Because she was supposed to play the part in Warner Bro’s Beauty, which would have been directed by Guillermo del Toro. But things didn’t turn out for the best, and both left the project. Disney then approached the actress and there you go! Emma seems happy when she posted the news on her facebook!

I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx

Empire Magazine had an Avengers: Age of Ultron special where they talked, among other people, to director Joss Whedon who joked (I hope!) he will kill all the Avengers at the end of the movie and Marvel will only have Ant-Man for Phase 3! On more serious things, he said that it’s very unlikely he will direct another Avengers movie because it’s been hard yo!

I couldn’t imagine doing this again. It’s enormously hard, and it be, by then, a good five years since I created anything that was completely my own. So it’s very doubtful that I would take on the two-part Infinity War movie that would eat up the next four years of my life. I obviously still want to be a part of the Marvel Universe – I love these guys – but it ain’t easy. This year has been more like running three shows than any year of my life. It is bonkers.

BTW, that Empire Magazine special had a lot of new pictures that were scanned here by most obliging fans~ Of course, some time later said Empire magazine issue was available in digital format and the pictures could be seen in all their high-quality glory! Just check out this couple of Chrises!

RDJ was also interviewed, and asked about the evolution of his character, about his mindframe and his state after the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, so we know how he will be in Captain America: Civil War.

The main thing to me is, what sort of incident could occur, and what sort of framework could we find Tony in? The clues about where we might find him next are in Ultron. But what would it take for Tony to completely turn around everything he’s stood for? Joss brings this up all the time.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson talked about Pietro/Quicksilver, his personality, how his powers will be portrayed, and of course his relationship with his twin sister~

It’s more about Pietro and Wanda together, a yin/yang where he’s very physical and very protective of her and she’s very internal and always mothering him. Pietro doesn’t [frick]ing trust anybody. The only one he cares for and at the end of the day will jump in front of a bullet for is his sister, Wanda.

And talking about said sister, here’s what Elizabeth Olsen had to say about Wanda/Scarlet Witch, who is totally not a mutant in the movie!

Age of Ultron is almost our origin story, so we don’t have one of those montages where heroes learn all of their powers in five minutes. We are still discovering the things we can and cannot do. The extent of her powers isn’t fully explored in Ultron. But she can manipulate objects. And she has visions, and she has the ability to share them.

Finally, we have the description of a scene in the movie. The scene where pool Bruce Banner is in a blanket in the quinjet. Which brings to mind that as much as I love Joss Whedon and Avengers, dude doesn’t know how to write Thor.

Here’s Collider’s interview with Fantastic Four director Josh Trank and producer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg about, well, Fantastic Four. Yep, it was a conscious decision not to reveal stuff from the movie until now; and the movie is heavily influenced by David Cronenberg to what I say OMG! For real? Anyway, we also got our first official behind-the-scenes pictures.

It’s confirmed! We are getting a live-action X-Men TV series! OMG! Of course, we cannot cheer in victory yet since Fox will first have to talk with Marvel about it. Fox only owns movie rights and this is certainly not a movie! That said, the people at Fox remain optimistic and have had already some meetings about it. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
