The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Be The Dragon!

FRIDAY

Guardians of the Galaxy continues getting accolades! It may not have got the Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards, but it actually won Best Action Movie at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Not only that, but the soundtrack has become certified Platinum after selling 1,000,000 copies worldwide! Congrats!

Chris Hemsworth and Naomi Watts will headline China’s Huading Awards as the Best Global Actors! Yep! China loves Thor! I still won’t forgive you for Transformers: Age of Extinction, China, but I like you for this.

Rumor has it that Fox is quite unhappy with Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot, that the movie looks like “Chronicle 2 rather than Fantastic 4“. Others claim that yeah there’s gonna be reshoots but those have been planned for well over a month too add more action scenes because the movie is very character driven. And then producer and writer Simon Kinberg gave a official answer saying “nu-uh we are all happy” and even gave us a date for the teaser. Freaking finally really because the movie ain’t far away and we have seen nothing official!

To confirm – Fantastic Four will be doing 3-4 days of additional photography with director Josh Trank and some key cast members. We are very excited about the film and can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been up to. And you will be able to do that very soon as I can confirm here that the teaser will be on Kingsman in theaters February 13.

So, Tom Hardy ain’t gonna be Rick Flagg on Suicide Squad anymore. The reason? Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s The Revenant is going over schedule into mid-March and the Hardy will have to promote Mad Max: Fury Road. So now he doesn’t have the time for Suicide Squad. Of course there are those who claim that the real reason is that he didn’t like the script and he left in amicable terms (so no problems to use a cover story with the possible schedule problems). What he didn’t like about the script? Well, the rumor goes that latest draft beefed up the screen time of Deadshot (Will Smith) and The Joker (Jared Leto) at the expense of characters like Flagg. Now what? Well, director David Ayer wants Jake Gyllenhaal. whom he previously worked with in End of Watch, as a possible replacement. OK, that could work.

Let’s talk about Constantine, who returned after the holiday break. It’s still not doing great and NBC President Jennifer Salke said that will they and it has a younger audience, the live numbers suck. Which means all those youngsters are watching it online in some way or another instead of watching it when it airs on TV and that hurts the ratings. Besides that, NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt seemed kinda regretful they chose one of DC’s lesser known heroes, even if they love Matt Ryan. He sure ain’t Batman, Flash or even Green Arrow!

We got on the bandwagon of these shows based on comic books and maybe there are too many of them. It’s a popular series of comics, but it’s not The Flash, it’s not Batman. So maybe it suffers a little bit there. But as Jen said, it’s a show we really like. We love Matt Ryan, who’s the star of it. I think we did right by the fans who didn’t like the film that was made of it. The future is still up in the air for that show.

In better Constantine news, Matt Ryan and DC Entertainment teamed-up to produce afun little clay-mation short! It’s weird, self-aware and adorable!

Well, Zachary Levi is getting work! Fandral will be part of NBC’s Heroes revival! Yep, he’ll be with returning Heroes alum Jack Coleman for the 13-episode miniseries, Heroes Reborn. May it be like Heroes’ first season and not the last! We don’t know what’s his role but here’s what he had to say:

There are a few franchises I’ve always wanted to be a part of, and Heroes is one of them. Chuck gave me the opportunity to wield some fun powers, but an entire world with superpowers is a world I’ve always wanted to explore….I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with Tim [Kring], and the awesome team around him, in bringing this to life. Moreover, to be working with NBC again is such a reward in itself, as my bonds and relationships there are deep.

On more NBC news, goddammit Hannibal Season 3 will air in the (North Hemisphere) Summer. I don’t want to wait for Richard Armitage until May/June/July! Come on! The previous seasons started in April and February, respectively! And NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt has a crappy excuse! “We love Summer”. Of sod off!

But hey at least Bryan Fuller shared this picture with us, right? Also, Richard Armitage was tweeting Red Dragon quotes on his twitter, that beautiful bastard!

I hate the end with bad news but I can’t help it this time. I had to properly mourn. BBC3 cancelled In The Flesh. What the hell, BBC3? This is a BAFTA-winning drama! I want a Series 3 dammit! Writer Dominic Mitchell also gave us the bad news on Twitter where the fandom has already started to use the hashtag #saveintheflesh~

And that it’s for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Michael Peña (13), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (13), Ruth Wilson (13), Liam Hemsworth (13), Orlando Bloom (13), Grant Gustin (14), James Nesbitt (15) and John Carpenter (16).

  1. Glad to hear about Armitage and the possible Wakanda presence in the Avengers 2 but it’s too bad about In the Flesh. I can see it ending here, but it had enough material to go into at least a third series. lol I could say that last sentence about Channel 4’s Utopia too…there are quite a few shows I’m glad got a second season, but could have been better rounded off with a third.
