The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: Be The Dragon!

TUESDAY

After facing a dragon in The Hobbit movies, seems Richard Armitage is ready to become one! Yep, Hannibal dudes have recruited him to play Francis Dolarhyde (a.k.a. The Tooth Fairy), the main villian of Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon. He will be in Season 3 for six episodes and the fandom is quite happy with it~

Habemus Avengers: Age of Ultron new trailer! OK, so it is not that different from the first one, but we have enough new images to have fans GIFing, screengrabbing and speculation about everything! So yeah, here are the 10 most awesome moments (which are basically fights) from the trailer in all their GIF glory! Also, here are 55 high-quality screengrabs that look so pretty I was almost tempted to make a collage, until I remember how lazy I am~ They also helped me see details that happened to fast for my poor eyes.

Also, here’s a feature showing the five biggest reveals of the trailer, according to the author’s speculations: Tony Stark and Bruce Banner seemingly recognizing Ultron, Black Widow’s backstory, probably from the time before she started working on S.H.I.E.L.D., Hulk having red eyes which means influence by an outside force that could be Scarlet Witch, and also two that are related to the next piece of speculation, the appareance of a mysterious bald woman and another glimpse of Andy Serkis as what might be the Black Panther villain Ulysses Klaw~

So yep, here’s another piece of work that shows signs of what might be Black Panther’s involvement in Avengers: Age of Ultron, according to the newest trailer. Seems that the mysterious bald woman can be part of Dora Milaje, Black Panther’s personal, all-female security. Yay! The others are that The Avengers are totally going to at least South Africa, Andry Serkis’ character is wearing a claw necklace (get it?), and there’s a shot of an unknown cities that some hopefully expect to be Wakanda.

Despite having his character been blown to smithereens in Guardians of the GalaxyLee Pace would to play Ronan in the sequel since he loves him. Also, he was so very happy to be part of the Marvel experience~

I was so proud to be a part of that whole fun moment. I found the character very, very interesting, exceptionally, and in playing him — this kind of charismatic space terrorist. The idea is fascinating. I had to kind of crack the way the character thought. For me, I think he’s doing what’s right for his people. He’s going to right a wrong. He’s annihilating the weak in favor of the strong. That’s a different set of values, and he’s fighting for them.

In book news, OMG Cartoonist Kate Beaton has been busy! Not only is her webcomic-based best-selling book ‘Hark! A Vagrant’ getting a sequel with ‘Step Aside, Pops’; she’s also writing a children’s book ‘The Princess and the Pony’!

I had to learn things about kids. For instance, a character in the book was called “cute.” Kids don’t see something and think it is “cute” the way we do. They are cute, they live cute. So that word didn’t really work. It’s honestly a great challenge to write for kids, because they themselves are so smart and honest. They know when you’re talking down to them. They have no qualms about their opinions. If they don’t like something, they just leave it alone, they don’t bother investing any emotion into hating it. And when they love something, they love it with all their hearts.

Also on book news, here are some character portraits from the new illustrated Harry Potter books! Yep, the first ever fully illustrated Harry Potter books! Thankfully, they will be released one per year over the next seven years so I have time to save money/convince myself to buy books I already own because pretty pictures! Artist Jim Kay was extremely excited about getting the gig as he should have been. Also, J.K. Rowling has seen the images and approves. Here’s a taste, Draco Malfoy in all his pointy rat-faced glory!

Elle Magazine talked with Anne Kenney, the writer of the Outlander episode ‘The Wedding’. You know, the one with the hot sex scenes. And they talked about related things, including filming sex scenes from the female’s POV, clumsy sex, consent, and possible objectification of men. And then there was the NSFW but VERY important question of what happens to the ejaculation?

That’s a good point. It’s true, she just stands up and carries on without dealing with it. I am going to bring this up in the writers room. I’m making a note now: What happens to the cum? This is exactly the kind of stuff we talk about all the time. Really, this is all about those little things, those adjustments to the point of view that allow women to relate.

  1. Glad to hear about Armitage and the possible Wakanda presence in the Avengers 2 but it’s too bad about In the Flesh. I can see it ending here, but it had enough material to go into at least a third series. lol I could say that last sentence about Channel 4’s Utopia too…there are quite a few shows I’m glad got a second season, but could have been better rounded off with a third.
