The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: ABC brings the ladies to my small screen

TUESDAY

Grandfather of all geeks, Stan Lee, talks about Marvel movies, his cameos and what he sees as the future of comicbooks:

I think it’s the same as animation, I think it’ll become more and more digitalised. You’ll see them on your iPhones, you’ll listen to them in your car. There will still be comic books, but they won’t be as big as they were years ago – there are too many other ways to tell stories now with illustrations. And now, with technology, you can make those illustrations come alive.

Remember there was going to be a movie based on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, but it got caught in development hell? Ron Howard says “it got delayed”, but it’s still happening! It’s just hard to sell a movie that is fantasy/sci-fi/horror/western~

Even Stephen King acknowledges it’s a tricky adaptation, but to be honest, from a financing side, it’s not a straightforward, four-quadrant, sunny superhero story – it’s dark, it’s horror.

Shane Black talks about the Doc Savage movie they want to make, and compares him to Superman. He’s still thinking about which actor could play him, and he does like the interviewer suggestion of Chris Hemsworth. I’m worried this turns into another John Carter though.

WEDNESDAY

Here we have our first pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley while shooting of The Imitation Game!

So, while Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak will start shooting months from now, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain have been at DDT Efectos Especiales for some make-up test and body casts… which makes me believe that their characters, which are apparently siblings, are not entirely human~

And talking about Hiddles, here’s the first picture of Christina Hendricks and Tom Hiddleston’s animated characters from The Pirate Fairy. Yes, that’s a young Captain Hook who has both hands and not fabulous hat.

Billie Piper will join Penny Dreadful. You know, that series that seems to be a The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but hopefully won’t suck like the movie. Considering the cast and production team, I’m almost sure it won’t. Piper will be Brona Croft, an Irish immigrant to Victorian London trying to escape a dark and sordid past.

And with that we start all the news we are getting about of female-lead series we might soon get! First let’s start with ABC Family’s The Final Girl with Jamie Lee Curtis and  directed by Steve Miner. Here’s a synopsis:

The drama revolves around a group of girls who have, in essence, survived their own personal horror stories and are brought together by a mysterious older woman (Curtis) to channel the stress and scars of their experience for some greater good.

This could be good. I hope it is. Please let it be good.

Now on regular ABC, we get Esmeralda, a limited event series, that is basically The Hunchback Of Notre Dame through the eyes of, well, Esmeralda. I guess it will be based on the book so the ending will be bleaker and sadly no “Hellfire”.

Also, this is not confirmed yet, but Marvel and ABC are also joining forced to make another series besides Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and it would be based of Agent Carter (the short film featured on the Iron Man 3 blu-ray about Peggy Carter being a boss bitch and taking no names). It could be true considering Marvel’s co-president Louis D’Esposito (who directed Agent Carter BTW) wanted more of Peggy Carter. It is still unsure if Hayley Atwell will reprise her role since it is still the early stages, but already a website says she might be.
