The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: A series of fortunate news!

FRIDAY

Behold! The first image and footage from the Doctor Who Christmas Special show at their New York Comic Con panel! And yes, superheroes are part of the Whoniverse now! The episode is called “Return of Doctor Mysterio” and  features Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black) as the superhero. Apparently, Steven Moffat was inspired by Clark Kent (not Superman, Clark!), who he loves for all his mild-mannered ways, and how he never told Lois Lane that he’s Supes. Moffat thinks that “love triangle with two people in it” kind of love stories are the best.

On related news, here’s the official teaser trailer for Doctor Who spinoff series Class. Let’s appreciate Peter Capaldi ominously monologuing about how the students at Coal Hill Academy will need to learn to survive without The Doctor. Class will debut on BBC this October 22.

The music in Luke Cage is a big part of my appreciation for the series, and so I am pleased to learn that the score is available for download, and on freaking Vinyl too! And damn, it is 51 songs long! That said, that’s not the complete list, and you can find more music in the Spotify playlist available from Marvel. If you fuse both lists, you’ll get over 80 songs. So yep, enjoy!

On more Marvel news, OMG Forest Whitaker has joined the cast of Black Panther! He will play Zuri, an elder stateman in Wakanda. Damn, add that to his role of Saw Gerrera in Rogue One, and Disney has its hands firmly on him (same with Lupita Nyong’o), and I ain’t complaining! Get money!

Habemus new Power Rangers character posters, courtesy of NYCC! Here are my favourites… or rather the ones whose action poses actually looked cool instead of awkward.

Marvel is giving America Chavez her own comicbook which will start with America #1. About damn time too! Fans have been asking for that for ages, it took so long that the original creators went off and created a new version of her at Image Comics. Anyway, the announcement was made at NYCC, and we know nothing besides that a cover for the first issue was drawn by artist Jamie McKelvie. You know, the one who drew her in the 2013 Young Avengers series, written by Kieron Gillen. And now we wait.

Did you know that United Nations declared October 21st “Wonder Woman Day”? Because I certainly didn’t before this week! Not content with that, United Nations also invited Lynda Carter to celebrate it, who said in a statement, “to honor Wonder Woman and women all over the world is just amazing”. Damn right! And if that weren’t enough, the United States Postal Service will pay tribute to “75 years of strength and imagination” with new stamp designs featuring Wonder Woman. The four different designs are made up of various styles, ranging from the Bronze Age to the Modern Age. Perfection!

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to Brie Larson, Lena Headey, Tessa Thompson, Caitriona Balfe, Christoph Waltz, Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet and Neil deGrasse Tyson.
