The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: A billboard for ants

Here be the nominatiosn for the 2015 Eisner! Things that I care about? Hawkeye (Matt Fraction & David Aja; Marvel) and
Saga (Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples; Image) for Best Continuing Series! Lumberjanes (Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson, & Brooke A. Allen; BOOM! Box) and Ms. Marvel (G. Willow Wilson & Adrian Alphona; Marvel) for Best New Series. And specially Nimona (Noelle Stephenson) for Best Digital/Web Comic!

DC, Warner and Mattel join forces to launch DC Super Hero Girls! And we, OK girls aged 6-12, will get TV specials, made-for-videos, toys, apparel, books, etc! Not sure I’m liking the designs but I do like the thought of it and will check it out. For science.

Featuring a completely new artistic style and aesthetic, DC Comics’ icons such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumble Bee, Poison Ivy, Katana and many more make their unprecedented teenaged introduction. Each character has her own storyline that explores what teen life is like as a Super Hero, including discovering her unique abilities, nurturing her remarkable powers and mastering the fundamentals of being a hero.

Sony will make an animated Spider-Man film and The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will, well, direct it! The movie will come out on July 20, 2018 and I want to believe it will be “f***ing awesome” indeed. And on not so great Spider-Man news, MCU and Sony Spidey movies has these kids in their shortlist for a possible Peter Parker. I like none of them. Then again, I only know Asa Butterfield, and he doesn’t scream Peter Parker to me. If any of these kids pulls it off tho, I will stand corrected~

Here’s the proof that Disney will own my soul for the next two years (at least):

Yep, that’s Disney film lineup through late spring 2017. It was revealed at Cinemacon. Yep, all the Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and their own animated films. Also, the movies they will distribute in behalf of Dreamworks.

Also on Cinemacon, Vin Diesel announced that a eighth Fast and Furious film will be released on April 14, 2017. Dude also promises that it will “the best movie you’ve ever seen”. Rumors says it will take place largely in New York and will have all of the primary cast, as well as newcomer Kurt Russell, whom you could see for a bit on Furious 7.

Elizabeth Olsen revealed that Scarlet Witch will be in Captain America: Civil War… just like everybody else. Couldn’t they have made an Avengers movie about Civil War? Poor Cap, everybody is on his damn movie! Will still watch Captain America: Civil War, of course!

Here’s an interview about the Vikings season finale that premiered that day, and there was still talk about Ragnar and his feelings for poor Athelstan

Athelstan was the only fellow he could talk to. He was his confidant and he didn’t have the objectives that the other people around Ragnar do. He’s the only one Ragnar could be honest around and not have to act like a king or a leader. So he was such an important character to Ragnar.

J.K. Rowling will publish another book under the Robert Galbraith pseudonym! Yep, we will get the third Cormoran Strike crime novel, Career of Evil.

And finally, Suicide Squad director David Ayer released the first official photo of Jared Leto as The Joker on his twitter! The reactions were both explosive and mixed. But hey, it’s been mentioned everywhere so it did a great marketing job! Here are a couple of articles about it, an in-depth analysis of his looks, and five theories about his tattoos. Personally, while I generally like the look, and it’s very striking… some of the tats are a bit too much. Dude’s like a Juggalo Joker!

And that’s it for the week. Before I go, I want to wish Happy Birthday to David Tennant, Tim Curry, George Takei, Andy Serkis, Jessica Lange, James McAvoy, Jack Nicholson and John Oliver.
