The Fangirly Diary of a Geek Girl: A billboard for ants

TUESDAY

Bobby Drake, that is the founding X-Man known as Ice-Man, came out as gay in leaked pages of All-New X-Men #40. And that would have been fine and dandy, since it’s been hinted here and there over the years; but not, it was Jean Grey who outed him (even if only to himself) and that wasn’t that great. Also, his young teen self is gay, the current adult one is not (the original teen X-Men are in the current timeline and interact with their older current selves… the ones that are alive, I mean). Nope, he’s not bisexual. Jean Grey also butted in to comment on that one. Yep, that’s a clusterfuck and I don’t know how that works. Guess I will have to read the next issues.

I guess now that Joss Whedon won’t direct more Marvel movies, he gets to talk a bit much about Marvel movies. Like saying Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man script was the best Marvel one he ever had read. Bastard! You can’t go and say that! Anyone has a leak on that script yet?

I thought the script was not only the best script that Marvel had ever had, but the most Marvel script I’d read. I had no interest in Ant-Man. [Then] I read the script, and was like, Of course! This is so good! It reminded me of the books when I read them. Irreverent and funny and could make what was small large, and vice versa. I don’t know where things went wrong. But I was very sad.

Sad?! At least you got to read it, dammit!

OMG! Netflix renewed Daredevil for a second season! We’ll get new showrunners, which is kind of a bummer because Steven DeKnight did a fine job. Dude has previous commitments tho, and he gets to be executive producer. The new showrunners are Doug Petrie (Buffy/American Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy), and the series will return in 2016! YES!

Talking about Netflic shows, it’s true, we will get a Full House revival! John Stamos is the producer (and guest star as Uncle Jesse), and will focus on original cast members Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber. That’s DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy respectively!

In Fuller House, the adventures of the original series continue on with D.J. Tanner-Fuller (hence the show’s title) now pregnant and recently widowed living in San Francisco. DJ’s younger sister and aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Sweetin) and her BFF and fellow single mom Kimmy Gibbler (Barber)—along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona—all move in to help take of DJ’s two boys, the rebellious J.D., 12, and the neurotic Max, 7.

It’s like the same but in reverse! Also, damn, that people sure had terrible luck at love! Both Danny Tanner and DJ are widowers!

OMG! We will get a Galaxy Quest series on TV! Paramount Television is the one putting it together. The team includes the writer from the movie, Robert Gordon, director Dean Parisot, and producer Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad). There’s no info on the cast yet, but we probably won’t get the main cast from the movie… and yet I hope for something cool~ Galaxy Quest is about the cast members of a long-cancelled sci-fi TV series (which is totally the original Star Trek) who accidentally gets transported onto a real spaceship to help real aliens against a real bad alien dude, and the end up becoming real if reluctant heroes. It’s awesome.

Two new cast members for Beauty and the Beast. And really, this cast is getting better and better! Now we have Ewan McGregor as Lumière, the castle’s maître d’ who’s a candlestick holder, and will probably be seen a lot with Cogsworth, the butler turned clock, played by Ian McKellen. Then, we will have Stanley Tucci as Cadenza the grand piano, a new character to the realm who is described as a neurotic maestro.

Here’s the first picture of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tale, shared by Jerry Bruckheimer on his twitter. Seems like Captain Jack Sparrow is in dire trouble! We’ll get the movie July 7, 2017. And it has ghosts pirates! Again! At least, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa is back, and I love that bastard. I guess I would mind watching Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar either. I wonder what wacky hairdo he will have now?

I’m gotta confess I am not much of a Scooby Doo person, but I do love it when “real celebrities” appear as themselves on their movies. So yes, of course the idea of watching Kiss in a Scooby Doo movie will make me fangirl, at least a bit. I am indeed ready for Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery!

Rock and Roll Mystery will be available for download on July 10th and sold on Blu-ray and DVD July 21st. Alongside the band, the film will also feature a number of guest voices, including Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Darius Rucker, Garry Marshall and Penny Marshall. In addition to six classic Kiss tracks, the movie will feature a new, original song from the band.
