The 2012 Juan and Only Award Winners

Best Director

With a weird bunch of people nominated this year, I didn’t really know what to expect, but one man soared higher than the rest with the bulk of the votes. The award goes to one of the biggest babes who directs the best movies.

WINNER: Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master)
RUNNER-UP: David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis)

Best Young Actor/Actress

I didn’t expect much of a fight to be put up here and I got exactly what I expected. It’s one of the few categories where every single nominee received at least one vote, and yet there was in fact one clear front-runner throughout the entire voting process. This young woman was up for an Oscar this year, but today she wins this award.

WINNER: Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild)
RUNNER-UP: Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi)

Best Supporting Actress

I had a dream this win would be so different from this win that’s winning, so different and not guessable. But my voters have killed the dream I dreamed.

WINNER: Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables)
RUNNER-UP: Juno Temple (Killer Joe)

Best Supporting Actor

This one was neck and neck and we avoided a tie by the final vote. Yet another category where I would have been glad to see either one of these two men win, but I can’t say I’m disappointed that one beat the other considering it was one of my favorite performances of the year.

WINNER: Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master)
RUNNER-UP: Leonardo DiCaprio (Django Unchained)

Best Actress

Let’s be real, we had cooler nominees than the Oscars and that Weinstein couldn’t bribe me here because JLawr wasn’t even nominated, which is pretty nice. It was a three-way race here up until the last few votes, but our oldest contestant became our best actress winner.

WINNER: Emmanuelle Riva (Amour)
RUNNER-UP(S): Greta Gerwig (Damsels in Distress) & Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty)

Best Actor

I would have been happy with any, but it was a race between two of the year’s wildest performances. I was fully expecting a tie between them, but one beat the other, only adding to the many awards the film already scored, and here we are.

WINNER: Joaquin Phoenix (The Master)
RUNNER-UP: Denis Lavant (Holy Motors)

Best Picture

I won’t lie when I say I’m actually surprised by the way everyone voted on this one. Things were split up pretty evenly for the most part, to the point where there’s a four way tie for runner-up so I’ll just completely avoid bringing that up in this category. With all the awards it won tonight, you’d expect Paul Thomas Anderson to take home another one, but you’d be completely fucking wrong, because the real winner tonight is none other than Leos Carax.

WINNER: Holy Motors

That’s all folks. Hope you enjoyed the show and what not. Not that there really was a show, just me rambling on about random awards and posting pictures. Anyway, feel free to complain or agree or whatever in the comments section, and remember, if you want to blame anyone for your fave not winning, blame my voters (whose names will not be revealed due to sheer laziness and not protection or anything). See ya next year (hopefully earlier)!

Just yer average twenty-something college student with no time on his hands who ends up watching (and writing) too many movies and shows for his own good.

I can live with these results. xD

  2. I’m still catching up on 2012’s releases but I did see Paranorman about a month ago and it was so good. Now I’m waiting for my library hold on Wreck-It Ralph to arrive.
