No Doubt – Settle Down (Teaser)

Forgive me while I have a 90s music SPAZZ! No Doubt is officially back, and have whetted the palettes of all the fans who have been waiting since 2001’s Rock Steady for the gods of ska to return.

This official teaser for their newest single Settle Down, gives us a behind the scenes look at the making of the new video, set to be released July 16. With No Doubt classic Underneath it All playing in the background, the video shows Gwen, Tom, Adrien, and Tony getting prepped in costume and makeup, driving a tour bus, and being bathed in multi-colored fluorescent lights.

The new album, entitled Push and Shove, will be released September 25th, and let me just say, one 80s baby with 90s nostalgia to another, I can’t even WAIT to get my hands on it.

As unexpected as my path was to loving all things weird, more unexpected is my ability to get attention for writing about the stuff.

Rock Steady was from 2001. Just saying.

Hope the new album sounds closer to No Doubt than Gwen Stefani’s solo career.

@Rodrigo, Stefani’s solo debut wasn’t bad, but her subsequent work left… a bit to be desired from. I don’t know how to feel about MV teaser posting xD

I dunno if it has anything to do with 80s 90s nostalgia, or if the current mainstream is so bad that we all want these groups to come back. xD

@amy, I wasn’t fond of most of Stefani’s solo stuff. But I did like how Chris Rock used “Hollaback Girl” to set up a joke on one of his shows.

Toughest part of nostalgia is that it seems very tough (maybe nearly impossible) to combat. And it gets worse at time passes by. Part because mainstream sucks, part because people adore living in the past, part because people stick to one genre only, etc. I think the same applies to some films, videogames, and other ways of media entertainment, but nowhere near as hard as it happens with music (as a whole).

@Rodrigo, Changed. I wasn’t a fan of much of Gwen’s solo stuff (B.I.G. sample notwithstanding). But it’s no surprise that it wasn’t anywhere near her stuff with No Doubt. I just wish it would’ve been more challenging? Interesting?

Besides, No Doubt is No Doubt, NOT just Gwen. Their sound is very particular. The genre, even, is ska. Gwen was more bubblegum than anything else. I think with the band, the sound should be completely different.

As far as an MV teaser, I don’t know. I thought of it as pretty big news and something that should’ve been shared. Teasers for trailers of films are released, why not for MVs?

@Camiele, because teasers for films aren’t teasers for the trailers, they are teasers of the film. This teaser is the teaser of the mv. I think if we did that, the site would be flooded with KPop MV teasers. LOL 2NE1 released like 4 teasers in the course of a week. xD
