Julyssa’s Jukebox – The Jay-Z/Kanye West Edition

I saw Jay-Z and Kanye West on concert this week. It was pretty cool, but not that outlandish. I really didn’t have that many expectations but I was not blown away either. A little pity, since I’ve listened to Jay-Z for a long time now. His unplugged album is one of my most beloved albums in my collection. But either way, I find myself listening to a whole lot of Jay-Z and Kanye after the concert so therefore this jukebox.

1. Jay-Z – Song Cry

This is clearly one of my most favorite tracks by Jay-Z. I shall let the lyrics explain as to why.

2. Jay-Z – Big Pimpin’ ft. UGK

Aw lol. I love this song for all the wrong reasons, but hell it’s also a dirty pleasure of mine :P

3. Kanye West – Through The Wire

I adore Collage Dropout, Kanye, and I will forever. Not that his music today is bad, it’s just that well… there’s no denying that Kanye makes great music, he just should not always sing nor rap it himself…

I remember hearing this song the first time and finding it amazing. I still do.

4. Kanye West – Stronger

Sure, Kanye has some amazing tracks after his debut album. But the arrogance is a bit off-pouting. Can I like Kanye without liking Kanye? xD

5. Jay-Z & Kanye West – Ni**as In Paris

Epic song is epic and it really says nothing concrete. It’s just pure nonsense pulled together, but somehow it makes on hell of a song and it also makes one hell of an encore song. Best highlight of the concert was loosing my shit to this song five times. Five times. It was glorious.

————————————–

I know that Jay and Kanye have a long history together and they have both established much of what the hip-hop scene is today. I am also aware of how lucky I am to get to see them both live, but being the Jay fangirl I am… I would’ve preferred to see him solo :P. But Kanye, I won’t disregard the way you try to reinvent your genre. You are one heck of a producer, that is for sure, but you could be better live. Just saying.
